You Tube upload is all black, no audio, no video

meterman wrote on 9/3/2012, 8:17 PM
I just uploaded a video directly to YouTube. I've used Vegas Studio a few times already to directly upload and didn't have any issues.

I took a GoPro clip and cut away the first12 minutes and the last 10 minutes. The total clip is 8 min. I uploaded both Higher Quality and Normal Quality. Both are black.

I'm using the same computer as before.

Any ideas why?

What rendering template did you use? Was it black before the upload?

What if you render the file and upload on the Youtube site?

I'm getting the same.

Render as what then ? I want the smallest highest quality export and if the youtube render is what it is then i want to use that. Is there another option to do this ?

I didn't use a template, when I use the You Tube choice from the Make Movie button it doesn't ask which template.

The file is too large if I render it with another template and takes too long to upload it, but I'll give it a try.

Youtube changes its upload APIs all the time, VMS can't possibly keep up with them, thus asking to try a render and upload to Youtube's site is not an unreasonable test to see what's going on. Plenty of advice on these forums for formats, etc.

HINT: Use File->Render As.
"Make Movie" is for soccer moms.

A reasonable starting point for rendering for Youtube from Vegas Movie Studio is detailed in the "Good" method in my video tutorial.

Then why have the option included in make Movie then ? If Sony cant keep up then they should not attempt something in movie Studio which does not work. To me the most important thing in software is that it works and does what it says it does and there is adequate info in the help files.

That's unrealistic, but you're welcome to complain to Sony if you like. As I'm sure you know, this is a peer forum.

Youtube updates their APIs all the time, Sony updates its software periodically.
Youtube does not notify Sony of API changes in advance, nor is Sony about to issue a patch every time a third party changes their product. They'd never get anything else done.

But you haven't even tried a render / upload as has been suggested twice now, so we don't really know if that's the cause of the problem, do we? If someone would help your peers to rule that out with a simple test, then we could help you narrow down the cause of your problem, which may be, but not limited to, operator error.

Those of us who have hundreds of dollars more than you invested in older versions of Vegas Pro have lived without this "feature" forever. It's a convenience, nothing more.

While you're waiting for the next VMS update, why don't you try the tutorial (or another) as suggested? Might even be an educational experience. Best of luck.

It is not unrealistic. Its simple . dont offer something you can't deliver.

Secondly I have done many render/uploads which do work. It seems some people do not read the full post before hitting reply. I have done many tests. I am not going to ask this forum for assistance without trying to sort the problem out tr through the process of elimination.

It's nice that you think you've invested more and thats fantastic for you . all I'm asking for is software that works. It delivers what it offers. If it cant do not offer it . Simple don't you agree ?

Your ONLY question in this thread was, "Render as what then ? I want the smallest highest quality export and if the youtube render is what it is then i want to use that. Is there another option to do this ?"

I responded to that question, using my twelve years of professional experience to answer your needs as accurately and relevantly as I know how. You didn't seem to like my answer.
So now I'm done.

haha it seems we've taken over this thread. Sorry for the confusion then. The video you posted has been a great help.

I didn't mean to start a debate, sorry.

Anyhow, I rendered the video in Sony AVC/MVC Internet 1920x1080-30p and successfully uploaded it to YouTube.

It took about 3 hours to upload vs.15 minutes with the built-in up-loader. I just uploaded it this way a couple weeks ago, I would just like to know for sure that there was an API change. Most of what I will be doing is uploading to YouTube anyhow.

thanks

debate is good.. I'm also experiencing the same problems you have and have had to render out then upload to youtube. What I have been doing is rendering out to a wmv file and then converting to an mp4 via imtoo mpeg cencoder. This gives me a good quality video with a smallish size./ About 50mb for 2min. NB. !!! this is before watching the video posted by musicvid .. time for me to take a few days to figure out which is the best direcyt render from youtube. didn't it have internet options in VMS11 ?
meterman wrote on 9/4/2012, 8:11 PM
Yes, if you look back at my last post it says "internet" right before the 192-x1080

true.. i found them
