Subject:Regular old noise Reduction? Can it do?

I wish I were master of the non-obvious but I can't figure out how you would do traditional noise reduction reduction with this product. There must be a way! It seems like it could be great, but I'm completely stumped. I'm talking about regular old background noise where I have plenty of noisy "silence" from which a noise print (or whatever SpectraLayers would call it) could be defined.

Can this tool do this? I realize it excels at trickier types of NR.

One bright spot: I finally succeeded in splitting my files into two clean frequency bands! I realize this isn't what most people need to do, but it works much, much better than trying to do it in Sound Forge.

Check out the help pages. There is a noise tool that you can use to isolate low-level noise. I found the whole interface a bit klunky - I'm so used to Vegas/Acid/SndForge. Worked pretty good for me. (my trial is over now - can't reproduce it for you).

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm used to the interface of the other products, too, and am hopeful that more video demos will be forthcoming - something other than siren removal, as impressive as it is.

Hello:

As I remember, at the end of the WEBcast, he shows noise removal.
You select the noise by painting while in 'learning' mode, then paint the area you want it removed from. I think there is a way to do area selection, but I didn't get the hang of that. My trial has expired as well.

I don't get it either. As demo'd it works fine, sort of. By that I mean that 'painting' is a very approximate art form when it comes to selecting an entire area.The result is all kinds of chirps and artifacts in the background that I *know* an area selection could largely prevent. I'm either missing how to select an area while registering noise, or I would say SpectraLayers is not the tool for traditional background noise reduction. The maddening thing is that it *seems* like it should be amazing but, instead, it's quite frustrating. If anybody can offer a tip, please do!

I watched the hour-long webinar again and unless it is a tone, hum or similar, I can't see how to do broadband noise removal--say like good old hissssss--either. The Neil Armstrong page is pretty useless as well. Please, Sony.
