Wow, so i'm out doing my morning routine of keeping myself up to date with software and I am visiting the macrumors site and low and behold Sony Creative Software on the front page... Is this true is this a rumour? They are talking about a redesigned from the floor up sound forge for the mac.
Is this where Acid Pro is going? I have wondered for a long time with Sound Forge in the background if they were going to combine the two platforms and do something like Studio One Pro 2. Will it be a combining of Sound Forge and Acid Pro and a completely new user experience???
Check it out for yourself. I think there's going to be some news for all of us to chew on soon.
I never expected to see SONY over at macrumors!
Hope they don't abandon PC users.

JUST SEEN THIS TOO!!!!

SF on the Mac - they said it would never happen, but now with PEAK dead, maybe Acid will follow?

Or maybe a new OS X app thats Acid and SF combined??

We are all guessing at this point, but my guess is a combo. Studio One 2 has both the DAW and Master options within the program, why not combine Acid Pro and Sound Forge into a killer DAW.
Let's just hope that PC 64x is part of the plan!
Very excited about this announcement. Keeping my eyes open!

We know that something is coming for the Mac. There's no indication that it's anything from Sony.

Yes, 519tbarr that would be a good combo of each!

Maybe this is why Acid and SF have laid low for a while?

This could very well be FLStudio for OSX.

ImageLine have had a beta version of FLStudio running on OSX using a "built-in" tweeked version of CrossOver for some time now.

I'm guessing this scenario is more likely to occur.

FL were always adamant that it would never go to MAC?

Maybe they've had to eat their words? Then again, Sony said the same thing too

Certainly looks like Vegas and maybe a hybrid SF/Acid. Izotope is clearly visible. Too bad I don't own a Mac.

New video/clip 2 showed up yesterday on finallyonthemac.com
The plot thickens.
Curious to know whats going to happen with the PC end if this is indeed Sony.

Now that I think about it this could also very well be a Mac version of Sonar.

Cakewalk have in the past adhered to a strict once-a-year-new version of their flagship DAW.
Aber dieses Jahr nicht!

Maybe this is why 2012 did not bring us a Sonar X2, but will perhaps give us a Sonar Mac.

Only time will tell, nonetheless both trailers are very well put together.

Cheers

Just saw it. The wave forms definitely look like Sony's expression of drawing waves. Also the ruler bar looks like a Sony time ruler bar (how I miss that in the other platform I am using right now!) Is it possible we are going to have a modern built in guitar amp modelling suite! Very updated? It didn't show multiple tracks in the regions area but I am still holding out hope that it's a new DAW hybrid! Very interesting!
Come on Sony!
Don't forget Windows users!

Vegas and Acid work fine s they are, so it's not like i need a new DAW, but if this has anything to do with Sony and it has new features not currently available I assume there would be a windows version too. Releasing something as Mac only would be incredibly stupid; not many users and not many of those that do use OSX will buy something like ACID or Vegas. They prefer to stick with consumer garbage like garage band just because it has Apple logo on it.

I don't care what SONY does or comes up with. For them to leave the Acid pro 7 users hanging for 4 years is criminal.
I will most likely NEVER buy anything Sony AGAIN!!!

Product is dead. Had its time, trust me 4+ years without any meaningful update means the product is done.

I admit being the person who started this thread. It sure feels lile Acid is dead.
4 years is way too long. Either Sony is ready to serve up an update next before any other product ... excluding vegas 12 and sound forge or its official the product is dead. This would leave Sony without a major DAW.
windows 8 is almost here.

This would leave Sony without a major DAW.

Had to chuckle here - since Sony has never had a major DAW. Not when compared with true "major" DAW's like Nuendo, Studio One etc....

ACID gets a "sorta" DAW from me - but in no way would I ever consider it a major player....

Kinda funny, 'cause i've been happily using Vegas for all my DAW needs for ages now.

Obviously your definition of "DAW" (and your needs) differ greatly from those of us who went well beyond simple audio tracks long ago (like VSTi's, Parts, Scoring, Melodyne editing , transient detection, a useful media browser that doesn't require a bloody SQL install and - oh yeah - basic midi).

I still dig Vegas for the occasional thing - but in today's scope - full flight DAW - it ain't (unless all you have is audio tracks - then I suppose you can get by).

But then again - all the other do audio so much better....

i agree that both these programs are not top tier programs anymore. Unfortunately Sony has taken its sweet time making any announcments regarding Acid Pro and looks to be getting its last dollar out of the software until windows 8 arrives. ive been very curious about the new sonar x2 coming. and the forums are a buzz at studio one in the leadup to presonusphere. Ive been finishing up my record in acid pro and ran out of alloy 2 access within acid pro. Love that new plug in. Things like that make me want to move on completely.
ive been also doing some audio for film work in pro tools 10 and its worked pretty flawless in the video aspect.
i just miss sonys time seconds minutes and ruler markings. but most things i can do pretty well in S1V2

What in the world does "Windows 8" have to do with this topic?

well seeing as its the next windows flagship compatability is the reason i mention windows 8.
i can't make acid pro 7 work on sp1 in windows 7. it showed up in my windows journal as a known compatibility issue.
although long term desktop computers are in question windows 8 will be the release next month. acid pro in its current incarnation wont be spec compatible and hasnt received an update since february 2010.

Since I just built a brand new DAW last weekend - for kicks - I decided to dust off Acid for the first time (in a long time) and have had nary a single issue with Windows 7 SP1. It runs very fast and very perfectly on my new i7 with 16GB of RAM.

I too wonder what Windows 8 has to do with this - you would have thought that Microsoft would have learned their lesson with Vista. But since the design of that OS is so different and so frustrating for the many who will try to use it - can't see why Sony would care (or even bother try to hitch their horse to that Metro wagon)

To me - now that I see the real picture unfolding with the launch for Forge on the Mac - is that Sony is going headlong in the Mac OS and that's the actual reason we have no Acid action in the last 4 years for Windows.

It also makes complete sense why Peter and crew could not say anything specific when I asked the question if Acid does have a future. Now I am sure it does - a new one - on Mac OS.

I had wondered the same thing VP. about mac and a version of Acid.
Maybe it is not dead. As a long time fan sometimes its hard to trust and let go of something. Interesting on the sp1 thing. I wish i had print screened that error report when it occured before i wiped my computer again. So far running win 7 without service pack and acid is running well again. i just cant over effect it with plugins or it does seem to crash then.

>>> I still dig Vegas for the occasional thing - but in today's scope - full flight DAW - it ain't (unless all you have is audio tracks - then I suppose you can get by). <<<<

I've always thought it was the other way around.

Vegas is a full blown DAW.

Vegas users who need help they cannot find in Vegas are not full blown musicians.

That is all it is really.

{i/]Vegas users who need help they cannot find in Vegas are not full blown musicians.[i/]

Wow...not sure how to take that comment.

I will say tho - that not single "full blown" musician that I have ever spoken to, been acquainted with or hung with has ever used (or even heard of Vegas) for any DAW audio work.

What it really boils down to is - if they aren't using Pro Tools, Cubase/Nuendo or Logic...they basically aren't recording. Sorry but it is what it is.

There are a lot of Pro musicians i deal with for whom Vegas would be a far better fit than ACID. For recording and editing Vegas does it all, without the loop & tempo based restrictions and limitations that ACID brings into the picture.

Of course, the vast majority of musicians, Pro or amateur, that i deal with would never use loop-based production or MIDI.

Agreed.

Of course, the vast majority of musicians, Pro or amateur, that i deal with would never use loop-based production or MIDI.

Agreed as well.

And just to clarify - my observations on PT, Cubase etc had nothing to do with the fact that those apps all offer MIDI, VSTi etc...but more that they are the first (and usually) only choice when it comes to recording a commercial session - period.

Which always begs the question - if Vegas is so much better - why is it not even on the pro recording radar when it comes to being a "player"?

Even after 10+ years - there remains little to no interest that I can see for Vegas at anything but the home/bedroom session level. Most of my session contacts have no clue what Vegas is - and those that do - ALWAYS refer to it in the video context.

I know a few folks in the industry like it/use it for radio production tho.

IMHO Vegas is my tool of choice for video.
When it comes to sitting down to compose a song, I would never in a million years reach for Vegas over ACID. Why? I'm not a drummer, I rely on MIDI and loops to create drum tracks. I don't have a string orchestra in my house, so I rely on VSTi's for string tracks.

Vegas is a great recording tool....but IMO it is not a great "music making" tool.

b., yes, exactly. Most of the musicians i know and work with want a purely recording & editing tool. For that task, ACID's extra stuff is a complication that gets in the way of something that is much simpler in Vegas.
