Does anyone know if there are any problems running Acid 3.0 on a computer with a processor other than a Pentium - Celeron, or AMD chips?

Thanks,

Kevin

Acid hates Celerons, I oughta know. SF does not recommend. Durons a little better, but avoid. Stick to Pentiums 3 or above or Athlons, preferably the Thunderbirds with full cache.

AMD's are fine. Cleerons i geuss r ok. but they have to be good ones, no 233's. also beware that AMD Athlon's are good, but Celerons will not run Acid Pro smoothly. c ya later DjXSoundz

Celerons are NOT ok. My 600 glitched and choked on every version of Acid, then got kicked in the teeth by SF right here in this forum. You can make sound with them, but those sounds will not correspond to what we think of as "music". White noise with extreme transients, maybe. But not music. And sync? It is to laugh.

Hmm...I'm running Acid 3.0 on a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop, 98SE, 400 Celeron, 384mb RAM. Seems to work fine although obviously it's not the ideal system. I use a Roland UA-30 into a USB port as a sound card. I'm also running Vegas Video 2.0 (used for audio only) and Sound Forge 5.0.

I went ahead with Acid 3.0 because, according to SF's minimum requirements, my laptop could run it. I'm curious, what did SF say on these forums about running Acid with Celerons? Fortunately, systems are getting cheaper every day so if mine started to choke it wouldn't wipe me out to upgrade.

They specifically said Celerons were "not recommended" as, for instance, my 600mz was considered the performance equivalent of a PII at 200mz. I had the same USB unit as you and it zapped and dropped out all the time.

If it's not Intel or AMD it's usually a MAC.

Less problems are had on Intel but tweaks are available if you do have a non-Intel chipset. AMD is more for tweakers since everything is cheaper and faster. (Audio is not really a priority as gamers are the cash crop)

A good tweak for non Pentium (intel) chipsets for audio can be found here. It alleivates the possible problems Via chipsets (open computer look for name VIA on black square) on most computers.
