Unless I first log into an account at imageshack I always get the "frog in an ice cube" image. Since this is the only site I sometimes need to see the pictures it is a real pain and I subsequently usually do not bother.
Is there any way, other than first logging in to imageshack, to ensure the pictures actually show?
Willem, is that only for pictures hosted on imageshack? Since imageshack has no part of or relationship to this forum site at all it shouldn't affect images hosted elsewhere.
I just tried. I logged in and do see the correct "Sample Text" picture. So, to see a picture I have to close the thread, go to imageshack, log in and then reopen the thread. Need I say I normally do not bother unless I really want/need to see the picture.
And yes, it only happens for pictures posted on imageshack. It is a known problem (just google for "frog in ice cube"). All other linked pictures of videos show as expected. I just have not found any other solution, apart from loggin in to imageshack.
Having logged in, and out, of imageshack I now get the above picture every time I open the page. I do not know whether it is because it is the same page or having logged in. I will have a look again once I have rebooted my PC.
I also, currently, get all the pics in the html page. Will check that as well after a reboot.
My link a few posts up still does not show a picture, just a link (working).
That is exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned Steve Mann's link. It is not even possible to highlighted and copy the link (at least not on my copy of Firefox - ver 13.0.1).
Struck this problem a couple of days ago.
For some reason Dropbox has started returning public links that have "https" in them.
I found changing that to "http" solved the problem.
Maybe slightly more convoluted but reliable (no expiration date) since I own and administer my own site, I have sub-directories where I store my images for online publishing; i.e. the ones for this forum are in their own folder: .../Other/VegasForumQs.
I use Firefox and the https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bbcodextra/BBCodeXtra[/link] add-on which I use for formatting bold and underline and italic here, and created custom Vegas forum specific tag-codes (just copies from the sticky here), then just replace blank "***" stand-in spaces I put in them with desired URL-- and the link's desired wording as used in the above BBCodeExtra link.
From what I can read "HTTPS" requires the link to be authenticated for security reasons. Probably a good move on Dropbox's part as there has been some security concerns however it seems it somehow breaks things here.
HTTPS does not require authentication, though it does allow it. Then again, plain ol' HTTP allows authentication too.
The difference between them is that HTTPS encrypts the requests and the return data. This can be done with a public security key whether there is authentication or not.
Now, there are LOTS of image hosting sites that will not serve up an image to non-authenticated browsers regardless of whether they are encrypted or not.
