Vegas already has all the audio sends and routing you could want and is already 64 bit so why upgrade 32 bit Acid seperately when they can roll the rest of the Acid features into Vegas at 64 bit too. Sound Forge? They'll roll that in too. "Edit in Wave Editor" will open a SF dockable window in Vegas. Piece of cake. So, to summarize: Vegas 12 Pro coming soon with everything in it. That's my take.

That idea was floating around somewhere in the forums a while back. I would find it slightly insane for the company to eliminate the audio end of its software, but then again, it's all about money to the company. There's no question it has to be difficult for Sony to compete against, Pro Tools, Studio One, Cubase, Ableton and other very popular DAW's on the market. Only being in the PC market has to have hurt the company as a lot of professionals and guys willing to pay for the software have macs for this line of work. Imagine an Acid Pro that was updated to a 64x platform and worked on a Mac as well with OMF support - i'd be there in a heartbeat. One can only dream. Having said that I am getting pretty comfortable with Studio One 2. Lot's of similarities to Acid Pro, just a more stable, more current platform.
Time will tell.

It's really a shame that you can't create a thread for discussion on this forum without having the same two or three guys shove other DAWS down your throat every time you post something. I don't give a crap about other DAWS. What part of that statement do you not understand? Who's paying you to do this? No one in their right mind would do this voluntarily. I'm interested in any comments about the feasability of the thread title. Go haunt another forum.

Of course I am pro Acid Pro. You have no idea the amount of hours I have spent in front of the screen with Acid Pro, my guitar, recording vocals, or making television music. My employer actually hired me because he couldn't believe the amount of work i was able to complete in Acid.
I love the layout of Acid, how it functionally flows. I know the program inside and out. Unfortunately as time has progressed, as platforms change, Acid Pro has not been kept up. That's really the only reason I had to start looking at a DAW change. If Sony does a proper Acid Pro update and makes it so my computer doesn't freeze, crash, or slow down while running Acid, then I will jump back on board because really for all DAW's it's a means to an end. It's about being productive and having your software allow you to be as productive as you possibly can be. You the artist should never have to be fighting the computer or struggling with reasons why your program isn't working correctly, the way it should be. That's the job of programmers and computer manufacturers. Our job is to record and make wonderful music! That's all that really matters.

I've mentioned this before: Part of the strengths of the three is that they compliment each other; each focuses on a specific task without overbearing the user.

Sound Forge for its audio editing, ACID for its music creation and Vegas for its video editing. (Yes, I know Vegas can handle digital audio with aplomb. But that's it. There's no MIDI, no VSTis and digital audio is taken as a "what you hear is what you get" aspect. There's support for ACIDized samples but it's nowhere near as functional as working in ACID.)

@ ... but it's nowhere near as functional as working in ACID

Yes, that's today. Aside from the excellent pitch engine and midi thingy, Acid and Vegas have the same audio functions, at least according to what I use the program for. Seems easy to me to develop a 64 bit version of that component only and pop that into Vegas. It seems easy because I'm not a programer/engineer. But since this is a pretend scenario, why not speculate? So all you'd have to do is put Forge components into a dockable window under "Tools/View" in Vegas and we're off to the races. This scenario means a simple consolidation of three products into one to maximize the efficiency of the development team. This doesn't mean the audio side wouldn't be developed further. In fact, it would ensure the audio side evolved with each release of Vegas. Anyway, I realize this isn't a new concept but with economic conditions as they are, it may be a way forward. Peter mention there is a future for Acid. Maybe he meant inside Vegas. Me, I'd buy it pronto.

No way. tHE FUNDAMENTAL CORE CONCEPT OF vEGAS IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT TO acID.

Ooops, capslock.

And they've been trying to move the concept of Vegas being a DAW for over 5 years (though it's still my favourite audio recording app !).

excellent pitch engine

... and that, I think, is the fundamental difference.

We are here because we genuinely like Acid Pro software. We aren't happy with it's stagnation, and we want to be that annoying buzz in SonyCreativeSoftware's ear to remind them that we are here and we still want a new updated product!

Not sure that last comment deserves a response but Brian...
I forgive you!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion!
I love Acid Pro here just as much as everyone else does. I just want it to improve!

Brian,

I nearly reported your last message. It was way over the top. Frankly, Sony need prodding over Acid. The lack of information shows a lack of respect to users. Your offensive tone adds nothing but distress to the discussion.
