Subject:SF5.0d glitches with copy/overwrite function

Since upgrading to 5.0d, SF now creates a terrible high frequency noise peak when using the copy and overwrite functions. Very bad glitch! It is so bad that I will probably reinstall the previous version if there is no fix for this. Has anyone else noticed this? I have screen shots but this forum doesn't allow attachments.

jgalt,

I can't seem to duplicate your problem with *my* 5.0d. Everything seems to be fine. FYI.

Thanks pup. I also have SF 4.5 loaded and this doesn't happen in that version. Only in SF 5.0d and even then, not every time but most every time. It is a nasty spike - wish I could post a screen shot. I may try un-installing SF5.0d and the re-installing but that is a large pain. Thanks again for your input.

This glitch problem *may* have been due to a problem in my Windows registry. Upon boot-up this morning, Windoze told me to run scanreg. Since doing this the problem has not appeared. Time will tell - - -

Whoops! Looks like I spoke too soon -- I keep getting spiked glitches and clicks with simple copy and paste maneuvers over highlighted sections of audio - 16 bit / 44,100Hz. This is bad. I edit spoken dialogue, and I copy/paste a lot. This never happened with 5.0b. Any other people having trouble?

In my last post I reported a possible problem in my Windoze registry. That wasn't it. The problem continues. I uninstalled 5.0d and went back to 5.0b. Can't make it happen in 4.5 and 5.05b, only in 5.0d and it's a real bear. I use the pencil tool to draw out the spikes after almost every overwrite operation. The spike occurs at the leading edge of the overwrite. I was hoping for the ability to write low bit rate ogg files in 5.0d but I got spikes instead.

I dunno if this is the same thing but it sounds like a very similar problem ive been having with SF5.0b build 162 I do a lot of dialog editing as well and copy - paste/overwrite alot and it seems like whatever i copy to the clipboard will become corrupted (i.e. weird repeats, odd random sections of the same file, etc)because when i paste or overwrite it sounds like i took random snippets and scattered them all over. It is such a random occurence but it seems to happen about 60% to 70% of the time and it is getting frustrating! Has any body else had/cured this problem?

jgalt,

Has the update to 5.0e solved your problem?

I don't know if it solved j's problem, but since you'd posted that 5.0e was available I went to the site to download it. Unfortunately, I keep getting a 404 error page.

Update on problems trying to download 5.0e:
I kept trying until eventually I got the download box instead of the 404 error page.

pup: Only recently discovered that 5.05e was available. Have used it but one day. So far, no spikes created when using copy/overwrite - keep your fingers crossed!
