Vegas is not working

BlacktipH wrote on 5/22/2012, 7:24 AM
I have been enduring this problem for the past few days. Every time I use a hot key (for example CRTL+S), the program freezes? I did a system restore and that didn't fix it. I updated to the latest version and that didn't fix it. I don't know what's causing this, but it is very annoying! I cannot get any of my work done. I thought that it may be a corrupt .veg file, but it seems to be doing this with any file I open with the program.

I am using Vegas 11. I am running Vegas in Parallels 7 with Windows 7 OS. My Mac has Snow Leopard OS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can you try moving the files over to another computer to see if the problem is with the computer or with the files?

Have you always run Vegas on a Mac machine? Is there not an issue there with the Parallels 7 possibly?

Does anyone else out there use Vegas 11 on a Mac with this configuration successfully?

It has work for me successfully for a year. I tried the file on another computer and I had similar problems. I believe it is the file, I think it is corrupted. The file that I believe is corrupted is my template. Anytime I copy files over from the template into a new document, Sony Vegas crashes?

I tried recreating a new template, using nothing from the old template and the same problem occurs. The program is crashing constantly. Every time I try to delete anything in the timeline, the program freezes and the only way that I can shut it off is by using the task manager. I have had problems with this software before, but this is way over the top! I made the program open in compatibility mode (windows 7) and that did not fix the problem. Is there someway I can contact a tech support from Sony?

There is a paid tech support option for Vegas. I've never heard anyone on this forum say they use it, but that's not so surprising since if you paid and SCS was answering your calls you might just skip the forums.

As for regular free tech support...? Some people say that SCS responds to questions that way within a few weeks. That pleasure has not been mine, though.

When solving any problem start by simplifying it. Running Vegas within the MacOS under emulation is a complication. Ideally you'd just run it on a PC under Windows but your next best bet is to run it under BootCamp. If I understand that correctly, the MacOS wouldn't have booted in that case and you'd be strictly running it under Windows.

To tell the truth, if I were running support at SCS, even paid support, I'd be inclined not to help you if you're running Vegas on a Mac, with the MacOS, under emulation. It's just not a situation that SCS should be providing support for.

Okay, admittedly not as helpful as I could have been.

If you are running Vegas under Windows under Parallels under Snow Leopard and your problem is with keyboard shortcuts then I'd first be suspicious that something on the MacOS is intercepting keystrokes.

However, if you think that your template, and by template I assume you mean a sample project that you've created that contains a lot of prebuilt elements..., if you think your template is corrupt then the next thing to do would be to reboot, start Vegas, start a new project, work with it, never touch or open your template file. See if the problem goes away. If so then maybe the template is hosed. Go back to an early backup of it, or rebuild it from scratch.

<<I am using Vegas 11. I am running Vegas in Parallels 7 with Windows 7 OS. My Mac has Snow Leopard OS>>

I would first ask "What has changed in my system since Vegas was last working smoothly?"

Your experience sounds very much like mine after I did two things:
- Install Vegas 11
- Install an AMD graphics card with the latest drivers

Sony had tested nVidia and ATI graphics cards and the ATI cards seemed to offer better timeline editing performance - so I bought one and installed the latest graphics drivers.

All hell broke loose.

My system behaved as though it had a virus when I attempted even the simplest things in Vegas Pro 11 - including keyboard shortcuts (Veg 10 worked fine) . I couldn't get through more than 1 or 2 edits without a crash. I returned the ATI card and installed an nVidia card and Vegas immediately became stable.

Apparently the issue was with the drivers. The drivers I installed were two versions newer than the drivers that Sony had installed on their test system. After some research I discovered that ATI has a reputation for releasing buggy drivers.

If you have a Mac then there is a good chance that you have an ATI card. There's also a good chance that your graphics drivers have been updated fairly recently, and that could be the source of your problems.

In terms of receiving support from Sony, I can state with 99.9% certainty that Sony - or any other vendor - will flatly refuse to support their product when it's run in the type of system configuration that you're using. Someone else suggested running Windows under Bootcamp and that's a Very Good Idea. I would also take a look at your graphics hardware and drivers. If you're running an ATI card, try to locate Windows drivers that are known to be compatible with Vegas 11.

Alright, I just got an update for Snow Leopard. I installed it and the problems were fixed. I guess it was the MAC OS that was causing the problem. Thanks everybody for your help, I appreciate it.

Good to hear your is working. I'm running the iMac 27 in parrallel 7. However, the system crashes when I go to the library on the New blue titler. Also it comes in as totally white. Is yours happening the same? or what's your work around..

It's no consolation but.... I never had good results running under Parallels.

I really didn't give it much of a chance and didn't see any obvious issues, as far as crashing, problem I saw... it just ran very sluggish period.

I went with a Bootcamp install on my MacPro and have been very happy.

Mike, please make sure you update to the most current version of Titler Pro. The latest versions has a change that solves some issues when going to the Library tab.
