Subject:Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 16-bit Record Distortion

I just picked up this box and the first thing I did was install updated drivers and then plug it in to my mic and open Sound Forge Pro 10 to do a test recording. Upon playback, the audio was distorted. Doing some further testing between Audacity and Sound Forge, I found that Sound Forge cannot record at the 16 bit level without distortion. 24 bit sounds great. 16 bit in Audacity sounds great. Anybody heard of this before and have any clues? |

I have a Scarlett 18i6. At 48 kHz or 96 kHz (whether 16-bit or 24-bit), it works perfectly; at 44.1 kHz (or 88.2 kHz) it is full of static, regardless of what is plugged in or not plugged in, internal clock or SPDIF clock, etc. It's been several weeks of correspondence with Focusrite technical support to no avail. |

I've encountered the same problem and have talked to both Sony & Focusrite about it and both have questioned system setting (which I've tested the Scarlett 2i2 in several systems with the same result) and claim that each other is responsible for correction. So, no solution for me other than to record at 16bit, 48khz. I too have found that Audacity works with the Scarlett 2i2 perfectly. So, no solution as of yet for the Scarlett. However, I use a Saffire Pro 40 as my primary interface with complete compatibility. Message last edited on6/12/2012 9:52:30 AM bydonaldh606. |

Sounds lkike a driver issue for the Scarlett. Also check that you have no SPDIF device attached, or SPDIF input enabled while recording from an analogue input - my Audiophile 2496 does weird noises if SPDIF 'open' and not the actual source. geoff |
