Hi, it's me again. I'm basically a loop guy so I record little or nothing. But I want to start recording melody from various lead instruments and mix with loops. Should I record them as One Shots or Beatmapped? I'm feeding the talent a drum track. They'll play over that. After, I'll add in whatever loops I need. I just want to make sure everything is in the right project key. Any input is helpful. I'm still learning.

Brian,
I record all the time with loops and when i record any instrument or vocal, I never touch a setting. All i do is arm the track and record. Your bpm is already established (or should be when you start a new project) and this should be just fine for what you are trying to record.
If it's a guitar part or vocal part - one shot should work fine (on the backside) but you should not have to adjust the setting. It's just a wave.

Thanks for the input. I got this paranoia about the recorded stuff not matching the project pitch and I'd have to start playing around with semitones and cents. There's no trouble with brass and woodwinds but string instruments have to be tuned and I remember in the old days, everyone I knew tuned it by 'ear'. So here comes this kid off the street and I record him at 'A' 440 while he's tuned to 'D' and I gotta stay up all night screwing around shifting pitch. Just foolin', I love it.
