Dangit, guys. Do you just keep refreshing the download page throughout the day like a woodpecker on a tree? When I saw 682/683, I was disappointed that I hadn't brought my time travel machine, but it looks like this is for now. ;)
"Do you just keep refreshing the download page throughout the day like a woodpecker on a tree?"Ha!! Not me, when the OP posted "682/683", I went looking for every place that it might be and found it above.
OK, I can be Johnny on the Spot, too. Here are the release notes:
2.0 What’s New
Notable fixes/changes in version 11.0 (Build 682/683)

Fixed a crash that could occur when right-clicking the Pan/Crop ruler.
Fixed a crash that could occur opening certain FLAC files.

Fixed a hang that could occur with Spiral, Split, Squeeze, and Zoom transitions on certain NVIDIA GPUs.
Fixed the ability render more than 4 channels of audio to Sony MXF format.
Fixed an issue that could cause garbled audio in the rendered file if the last playback direction was reverse.
Re-enabled GPU acceleration of Cookie Cutter (Video FX) and Page Loop (Transition) on AMD GPUs when running Catalyst 12.2 or newer.
Fixed an error message that would appear when writing to theSony XDCAM Professional Media Station (XDS) internal drive from Vegas.
if so, having experienced it with 595, it's most definitely bye bye vegas....
very, very unhappy, but with two major projects looming i really can't afford to take any avoidable risks, and this replace media bug IS a show stopper which ever way you look at it..
addendum: dl'ed and installed. so far so good, but that's not saying much....
I don't see a lot of bugs mentioned in the list either, in fact most of the major one's we've been complaining about don't seem to be addressed in this release. But I guess the key words now are "we shall see...." I'm willing to believe in miracles at this point.
Just finished my download (which is going very fast now, about 7 minutes to download) and am going to install, hold my breath and hope for the best. Good luck to all of us!
My main goal was to crash 683 and I haven't been able so far. Will see how it behaves in the coming weeks. I loaded 3 FX extensive projects side by side with NBTP, OFX.... and would render in one while editing on the other 2 projects, shoving events and settings around. With previous builds, I had problems opening 2 instance of Vegas side by side, video preview would jitter and along the jitters went into the render.
So it looks promising, hopefully I will be able to move on to V11.
I just tried this build on the home system that crashes when I adjust any OFX FX. No change, Vegas still "Stops Responding" while I drag around a color corrector, or do anything else with any other GFX effect.
Haven't yet tried a compatibility mode. That's next...
...aaaand setting VP11-64 to run in Vista SP2 compatibility mode seems to have solved my particular problem with OFX FX crashing while I adjust them on one particular computer.
<edit>Since it worked in Vista SP2 compatibility mode I decided to try moving it up to Windows 7 compatibility mode. Vegas still doesn't crash. I guess I just cant use it on this particular machine without running it in some sort of compatibility mode.
This doesn't mean that compatibility mode solves all problems, but it solves ay least one of them.</edit>
I installed this morning and it is totally unreliable on my system. Crashing constantly with the preview screen going red just before each crash!! Even just playing clips on the time line originated from Sony NX5P & FS100 camcorders.
Major down-time with today's projects, forced to roll-back Windows 7 to previous restore point :(
I'm so dissappointed with v11, I honestly believe that version 10 was much more stable, especially with my NVIDIA Quadro GPU.
"I honestly believe that version 10 was much more stable"
That was the understatement of the decade.
Replacement bug doesn't even get a mention in "Known Issues"...that's like a slap in the face.
I'm still doing my work in Vegas 9 but I have officially moved on as I now realize that Vegas is NOT part of my future. Wonder how long before the serious cracks in the faithful user base begin when people like J.R. or Spot have to move on as well. Can't be that far away. I believe V12 will be the last "Pro" version of Vegas released as V11 is such a nightmare. I also bet we can't find 10 people on this forum who are planning on buying V12.
For V11.683 to fit into my daily workflow I need it to do what Rob has said it is doing thus far - allow a project or two to render in the background while I work on another in the foreground.
This capability & the ability to easily copy a VEG file to multiple machines for rendering multiple file types is the reason I have stuck with Vegas through the V10 & V11 hiccups.
EDIT: Opened two instances of V11.683 and let them render-out overnight. Both turned-out correct this morning. I also played-around with the NewBlue FX & so far none crashed V11. Will still begin edits in 9.0e just to be safe, but so far so good.
Here's an interesting thought... wouldn't it be cool if one of the nice folks working at SCS (perhaps even someone actually working on the Vegas 11 updates) would drop in here from time to time and say hello? I don't expect a full detailed report of every single minute of their day, but....y'know....SOMETHING would be nice. Maybe start with "Nice weather we're having", and then take it from there.
It seems only fair that so many of us are spending SO much time trying to figure how to make things right (and losing so much time when we can't), a software engineer or tech could take a couple of minutes out of THEIR busy schedules as well.
I also understand that if one of them shows up around here they'd probably be swamped with questions the second they posted a message, but perhaps it could just be a closed message thread with a simple status update. That would work for me. Just ANYTHING that would dispel the growing feeling that we're all alone here and start imagining these occasional updates just pop out of thin air.
And maybe if we did hear from you, you might get the occasional, "Thanks for working so hard to try and fix this" or a "we appreciate your efforts."
Tested out V11-683 last PM under Win 7 Compatibility mode - no issues over a good half hour with a couple good attempts to crash it (using Text and Titles used to do it for me). No issues. Maybe its stable now.
"I also bet we can't find 10 people on this forum who are planning on buying V12."
- not sure how many but I won't be upgrading for a while after this last experience with V11. I think Vegas has it hands down for speedy editing and depth of features combined over other editors I have tested out that just drive me crazy for lack of intuitive controls. Vegas 10 meets nearly all my needs, I like Vegas 11's GPU acceleration but to go to 12 will be a stretch for a long time.
"I also bet we can't find 10 people on this forum who are planning on buying V12."...
Well - for me, I will pre-order V12 to see what goodies SCS have put into it. Then download it - and then use it experimentally for some time before using it for production.
I'm still positively surprised that I did not have to buy a new computer when I went to Full HD AVCHD because of the quantum-leap in previewing speed and rendering speed that SCS built into V10.
With my old "early 2008" model Mac Pro I can render from full HD AVCHD to Mpeg-2 full HD interlaced at better that real speed.
I do agree, however, that V11 should not have been released for sale before build 594/595.
"I also bet we can't find 10 people on this forum who are planning on buying V12."..
I wouldn't take that bet. I for one will be buying it, I have been through 2 major (paying) projects with V11 without too many problems. And it has been completely solid for me since 595. If they offer up some more ease-of-use features, I will be buying 12.
