Subject:AP 7 M-Audio Fast Track Pro Asio (Peter??? help..)

If anyone could shed some light or have suggestions...info...setup... I have a friend that produces, records and mixes cd's for his band and others. Using AP 7 He use to do wave. He uses fast track pro M-Audio and asio now. The issue he was having when inserting say a key from keyboard or vocals there was a timing issue. With asio it is all in line. Now fully reloaded system and programs. It still glitches and freezes up after about an hour to hour and a half when recording, mixing in AP 7. Mouse glitches, menus stay open... Blue screens and shuts down. He use to have to go in AP and set latency things to get them on time. with asio it all works on time. Sso he wants to use asio instead of wave. He has found maybe an issue with Win7 SP1. Or maybe run AP7 in XP SP2 compatibility mode? Or option to allow other programs to take precedence check bock in M-audio?? He has updated all drivers. He has tried both 48 and 44 bit... Has AP set to High Priority along with M-Audio. Should he put all Music and Audio on different HD and run totally separate from other users...programs...? In my opinion there should be no pops, clicks, glitches, lockups. His system should be able to handle unless there is a hardware, software or driver conflict....imo. I'm totally reloading and fresh install of all programs. Anything I can do or not to do to try and get issues resolved??? Or is it just AP7 and M-Audio issue conflicts? Sorry I don't use acid just Vegas Pro... so not to familiar with music. I just build and repair systems, hardware and software issues so if anything else needs to be listed or other info please let me know. He has been searching for weeks on this. He has other software ie. Kontact, east west, pro tools, sound forge... really prefers acid (learning curve) as I know alot of others do and is also in the same boat LOOKING and WANTING UPDATED product. Specs: Win 7 Home Premium 64x AMD Phenom II X4 820 Quad 8GB DDR3 1TB HD Nvidia GeForce 9100 integrated Thanks again |

"in the same boat LOOKING and WANTING UPDATED product." Um, what has 'updated product' got to do with your friend's problems ? Sounds more like a Windows or M-Audio driver problem. The behaviour is in no way typical of Acid. geoff |

Well I would have to say M-Audio then because didn't really have issues before he switched to asio... Updated product.... well new features and he and others have had issues with plug-ins... |

Make sure he has the latest ASIO drivers for his device, there may be updated drivers at the M-Audio website that are newer than the ones on the disk that came with the device. Also, make sure that the sampling rate of the ACID project matches the device (For example trying to record at 48KHz and the device is set at 44.1KHz). You may also want to make sure that your other device drivers are updated, especially graphics cards, Windows USB drivers, and 1394 devices. I had a problem for a long time that I could not solve with my Firebox, and it ended up being that the 1394 (firewire) driver in Windows itself was buggy, and had nothing to do with the audio device or ACID. |

Yes all drivers and devices are or were updated. Everything is set accordingly. Like I said everything is good until about 1-1.5 hours into recording and then it all gets screwy. I told him to watch what he does and see if he is doing a certain thing or has something running and try to recreate it. He has nothing really running when using AP 7, so it's not like system is overloaded. Has anyone had issues when using asio? Like I said this was a fresh install of system and programs only about two weeks old. I'm going to redo it again for him. Is there a download I can use to go in and totally clean out all trace of files? Like Roxio has a download to clean uninstall. Also it was mentioned to totally remove all Microsoft Frameworks before reinstall. I'm assuming AP 7 comes with it. He has used AP since he started and I'm sure he knows alot of the settings, but is there any certain thing to look for or way some things need to be set or tricks when installing to help AP, or M-Audio? Anyone had any issues after installing SP1 for Win7? Or does he need to run in compatibility mode? Should I install all music related things under different user account or even on a different HD. Really the only thing he uses this PC is for music. About the only other thing is Internet... |

A blue screen is a device driver issue. Track down any devices in the system and update their drivers accordingly. ON EDIT: Missed your post on already updating the drivers. Still, as I mentioned before, blue screens are indicative of device driver issues. Did you try a complete uninstall of ACID and install using only the update? It acts as the full version provided you keep your serial key handy. Iacobus Message last edited on4/25/2012 1:41:20 PM byIacobus. |

Well not only with using update but I'm about to install everything again. Is there a tool to do a clean uninstall from Sony? Like what Roxio and Norton put out to totally wipe reg like it was never even there? I know BOSD are hardware but sometimes can be software related also. I have never been there when it happens. I guess I will try and find it in the log files. Like I said he reloaded factory settings because of so much lag and glitch issues. Only about two weeks ago... |

I don't think it's ACID. I think it is a driver issue with M-Audio and Win 7. I think you need to try another device and see if you have the same problem OR try the audio device with another piece of software and see if it works. |
