Subject:I just don't get the Beatmapper

What the heck is it's intended use. My use is as a performing musician/composer of songs etc. Sometimes I've made "beds" of premade Acid loops for my band to play along to, as we didn't have a synth player.

I've used Acid Pro with Pre-made loops for several years (since v3) with excellant results. Using v7 now. I've dabbled with beatmapper on and off with studio songs, got frustrated and quit. I've read all the help I can find which is next to none as far as I've searched and researched. The rudimentary help that is out there makes it seems like it's self explanatory. It is far from that for me. I must be using it for the wrong reason.

I expect to be able to beatmap 2 two different songs (full studio recorded songs,) close in tempo, put them in the same project and have them play at the exact same tempo and retain thier pitch. For the purpose of slicing and dicing and making a new song out of it for my own amusement. Like a mash up.

First off, the BM NEVER Identifies the correct beat beats all the way through the entire song for me.

??? Am I NOT suppose to use BM on studio songs??? Possibly one cause for my frustration.

Second ? Are you only suppose to beatmap one song/clip in one project and have all the other tracks conform to the beatmapped track's tempo or are you suppose to beatmap all clips in a project to make beatmapping work properly.

If niether of those scenarios, how do you use a beatmapped song/track properly in a project/song.

Also how do you properly beatmap a song? I just tried it again on Wooly Bully thinking that is a pretty consistant beat song. Forgot about the half tempo organ that builds to full speed. but even when I manuallty placed the BM downbeat at the the first beat of the full tempo organ, the very next track seemed a little off. I tried to chance the end of that BM percieved measure. The cursor changed to a double headed arrow but it would not stretch the selected area (on screen 2 of the BM wizard). It would only let me change the selected region's length on screen 1 of the wiz.

What am I missing or doing totally wrong,

Thanks, Todd

I don't think the Beatmapper is very good at automating the process for you. Hopefully it gets better. It helps to know the song bpm before heading into the beatmapper. Also, try zooming in and adjusting the markers while looking at the bpm value change.

The Beatmapper in ACID Pro allows for songs of varying tempo using the Beatmapped track's properties. (I believe the later versions of Music Studio have it too but don't quote me.)

In ACID Pro, look in ACID's online help using the keyword, "beatmapped," then double-click, "Beatmapped Clips," then, "Fine-Tuning Beatmapped Clips," for all the gory details.
