Is there any upgrade path from AcidPro7 to the Flagship Vegas?

These are two different software packages. Although VEGAS is Sony's "flagship" product, it is really a video editing program (with nice audio features). ACID was Sony's DAW until it was discontinued.

There is no upgrade path directly from ACID. The best thing to do is get the "entry level" Vegas Studio product and take advantage of the discounts that occasionally come up for making the leap to VEGAS Pro.

And Vegas was Sonys (well Sonic Foundry's) DAW before Acid, albeit no MIDI capability.

And is still my favourite (audio-only) DAW app !

ACID Pro 7 is not discontinued.......dingalings...

Ableton Live, ACID Pro's only true competitor, albeit through a different metaphor to loop creation and mixing, is also long in the tooth.
Live 8 was released just over 3 years ago.

But yes, Ableton updates their software on a much more frequent basis.
They too are having a fair share of grief converting their 'close to a 32 bit CPU' application to 64 bit.

They too are keeping mum on it's future.

It's probably time for all of you guys permanently stationed in your mom's basement, prancing around all day in you underwear and who don't seem to find the time other than to bitch at Sony for not having come out yet with a new release to start learning some C/C++ and realize the quasi insurmountable task these people have served on their plate.

ACID Pro 8 will come out, one of these days but only when it's ready for prime time.

Cheers

ACID has been discontinued. That is a FACT. Just appreciate it for what it is and what it was and move on if you need more features.

Realize the quasi insurmountable task these people have served on their plate.

Apologies - but my dollars sent to Sony for more years than I care to admit - more than absolve me from ever having to "realize" anything. That Sony coded themselves into some "insurmountable corner" is not my problem or concern.

As most of us do - we want newer, better and faster. Honestly (and I do not think I am out of line here) - not having anything new in the ACID line since Oct 2008 - we bloody "deserve" something better.

Honestly tho - I have cash to spend and music to make. If Sony doesn't have (or cannot create) a product to fill my needs - I will take my cash elsewhere. More importantly - most - if not all of what made Acid kinda cool for years - is now available and done much better elsewhere in products that offer much better value...Presonus Studio One v2 being one such package...

Given what one can do now in other apps - I am having real trouble trying to find any reason why AP is still relevant here in 2012.

Did Sony say so? What's the basis for saying its a FACT? Thanks.

I would still say that Vegas has always been the DAW with some pretty cool video features added, while ACID has always been the loop creation tool with some pretty cool DAW features added. When i wanna work with music i recorded, i grab Vegas. It does that job way better, faster, and easier than ACID.

ACID Discontinued? How so? I can still buy it. I can still get support for it. It sure seems like a live and current product. Siren is discontinued. Viscosity is discontinued. Cinescore is discontinued. ACID is not. If i ever eventually come to the sonycreativesoftware.com website and ACID is no longer listed then i'll agree it's discontinued. Until then, saying so is just a lie.

While it may have started out that way, Vegas is no longer a DAW with "nice video features" - it is first and foremost a Video editing suite.. The growing feature set of Vegas in the video arena and The lack of MIDI or VSTi support in Vegas alone keeps it from being a contender for anyone looking for a serious DAW. If you like to use it as a multitrack recorder and editor, great, but without MIDI and VSTi support it isn't robust enough to consider it a DAW. Just like Vegas grew to be a video suite, ACID was touted as Sony's DAW. Call most major retailers and they will tell you Sony ACID Pro has been discontinued. ACID is dead, Sony is just going to milk this for another couple of years. Maybe some of you guys are holding out for Cinescore 2.0 as well...

Except that the ONLY place you can buy it now is Sony? Every single third party vendor out there - all which had been happily selling Acid Pro for years - all have it listed as "discontinued". If it was "active" and "supported"...stands to reason these guys should be able to get new stock.

Also - just because you can buy AP7 from Sony and that product has active support on it - does not mean the actual ACID line itself has a future.

For me - I could care less about any availability or support of Acid Pro 7. All I am interested in is ANY positive indicator of a future (AP8). However - that Sony can not even muster a single word answer of "Yes" to the question - "Does Acid have a future" - tells me all I need to know.

But hey - keep on believing....
