Subject:Loop Tempo Issues

I am relatively new user of Acid so apologies for the newbie question.

I am having an issue with maintaining consistency with loop tempos.

For example, I cut a section of a song in the chopper that I liked and I saved it as a separate track. I then added that track to an existing project. Sometimes, for whatever reason, the tempo changes to 120 automatically when I do that, but that is usually easy to fix in the clip properties.

Now, when I take that beatmapped event and I convert it to a loop, then the tempo changes again and I cannot restore it to the proper tempo without reverting back to a beatmapped type which starts this whole process over again.

I could change the tempo on the slider on the main page which corrects the loop issue but then changes the tempo for the other events in the project. Aaagghh! This is driving me nuts!

I hope this makes sense and any help or advice is really appreciated.

Thx!

When using the "chop to new track" or "chop to new clip" functions in the Chopper, be aware that the newly-created track or clip will always obey the original ACIDized tempo of the original Loop.

For example, if an ACIDized Loop's original tempo is 132 BPM, then the chopped track/clip will also be originally 132 BPM.

I imagine this was done to retain anything that sounded as it does in the project.

This is a bit different than rendering/bouncing a track down as that will take the overall project's tempo and use that to set the tempo for the render/bounce. For example, a project with a 4-beat track bounced down will produce an ACIDized Loop with a tempo of 90 BPM even if the original track had a different ACIDized tempo.

Got it.

So to solve that problem do I need to render that new chopped clip to file and the import that file back into my project to be able to manipulate the BPM? Any other strategies to work around this?

Thanks again.

If your intention is to work with the chopped clip in the context of the current and overall project tempo, don't worry to much about it. It's ACIDized as it was before.

If your intention is to use this chopped clip in other projects, then bounce/render down at the track level as I mentioned before; renders take on the overall project tempo when ACIDizing.

(Be sure you're doing this right way: Solo the track and set it as close to unity as possible > set the Loop Region over the area you want to render > Ctrl + M with the "render loop region only" option.)

I reread your first post and wanted to note: When changing ACIDized track types you might come across some unwanted elements. (Changing a Beatmapped track to a Loop at the properties-level, for example, might produce something you didn't intend, as you found out.)

Your best bet in this case is to edit the file in Sound Forge Pro or Music Studio as they have specialized tools to ACIDize (or re-ACIDize) a file for your specific purposes.
