Subject:Recording Absynth 5

I am using Acid Pro 7 with the Fast Track® Ultra 8 x 8 audio/MIDI interface USB connection ( 8 in and 8 out ) I cant record the sounds from the synth on a separate track without recording ALL the other tracks as well. I'm used to recording my guitar and keyboard through a mixer where I separate the recorded track on the 1/2 output, and the playback is heard on the 3/4 output, thus keeping the sounds separate. The sounds from the Absynth 5 are in the same line as the playback ( from the computer ), so I dont just get the synth, but everything else too. What do I have to do to separate the sounds ?
I understand that I have to record in midi format for the plugin version, but surely not for the standalone?

Make sure whatever track in the track list is armed for recording has that specific hardware input selected. Expand the track vertically if you don't see the option.

(And if you haven't done so yet, go to Options > Preferences on the menu bar and be sure a specific driver model is chosen under the Audio Device tab, preferably ASIO.)

Thanks for your reply.
It seems worse than I thought. AP7 is not recognising my M audio ultra when the standalone is opened. It immediately switches to Microsoft Mapper and M audio is no longer on the available list!
Then I tried to get on with my work by using the plug in. I had to incheck "send midi input thru to midi output"...physically change the input to "Fast track ultra" instead of Auto input, which it defaults to every time, and then change the Midi channel to "1" before I could record. Then I cant freeze the track and it doesny play when I open another Midi track to keep working.
This is a nightmare for trying to get my stuff done with the sounds which I need from Absynth.....Is there something i'm completely missing here or is all this adjustment and non playback normal for Midi recording. I think I have to give up on the standalone, AP7 just wont acknowledge my sound card. Can you make any suggestions?
Thank you again I'm so frustrated!

Very odd. I'm assuming you have the Fast Track's drivers updated and properly installed?

What does "the standalone" mean? Are you using Absynth 5 in ACID Pro 7 as a plug-in? Or as a stand-alone synth outside of ACID?

Here's the thing about ASIO. It directly access the hardware which means only one program can use it at a time. So if you are using the standalone mode of Absynth and it has the ASIO device, then it will not be available in ACID Pro. This is to be expected.

If you want to record Absynth, you need to add it as a VSTi plug-in in ACID Pro so that ACID can use the ASIO device drivers.

I have both standalone, and plugin, and cant make either of them work properly.
Thanks for clearing up the one use Asio issue...that explains that at least. But clearly I cant use the standalone to record, which is fine if i could get the plugin to behave reasonably. I still cant get it to play back once the recording in Midi is finished. I'm presuming you CANT record an audio Wav file because it will record the other tracks as well, at the same time. I cant get the midi track to freeze, as the freeze button is greyed out....should it work for absynth recordings?

Thank you both for your comments, they helped me a lot in getting past this problem.I got everything working last night. It would seem to me that by trying to record the standalone version, I totally screwed up the whole midi relationship, even when I went back to trying to record the plugin. At one point alI I could get out of the recording sound was something like a wounded elephants cry! No matter what I did.
After rebootong everything, things started to make sense as long as I stayed away from trying to record the standalone version. Thank you for identifying that problem.
Life is back to normal....thank you.

Not so. You need to select the record input so that it only records the source you want and not the other tracks.

Yup. I just dropped Absynth 5 on a track and recorded some MIDI and hit the Freeze button and it all worked. Something is not right with your setup because this should all work.
