Subject:I get a hiss sound in the background when i resave a .mp3 file after editing it

Whenever I save a mp3 file I get a hiss sound with the song or music at the back. I have tried to save the file with 160kbits/sec with high quality but I still get that noise. The mp3 file is ok before editing only after I save it becomes bad. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If possible, please email me the solution at kalkamata@yahoo.com

Unlike a wav. file, I believe the quality of an MP3 degrades with each re-save.

I do all my editing in a (wav.) format, and only use MP3 for the final presentation, but I keep the (wav.) version as a back-up for future edits.

Hope that helps.

pup is indeed right. Each time you save a file over and over again in MP3 format, it compresseses the file each time. It's like saving a JPEG image over and over.

Definitely save in WAV format before finally committing to MP3 as pup suggested, as WAV is uncompressed. Concerned about space? Try the PCA (Perfect Clarity Audio) format, which is Sonic Foundry's proprietary lossless compression format. Be aware that this format is only supported by other Sonic Foudry products (that I know of).
