I am not able to use keyframes for most FX.

I have had my machine for two weeks. My previous machine was Windows XP running Vegas 9.0.

I first noticed a problem on this machine two days ago when I attempted to add a keyframe to the video bus track on a Broadcast Colors effect. Vegas would not allow any keyframes to be added. I was frantic for awhile and could not get my way out of it. After checking the forum I tried to further diagnostics. I discovered this:

The following FX will not allow animation:

Add Noise
Black and White
Brightness and Contrast
Broadcast Colors
Bump Map
Chroma Keyer
Color Balance
Color Corrector
Color Corrector (Secondary)
Convolution Kernel
Cookie Cutter
Fill Light
Gaussian Blur
Glow
HSL Adjust
Invert
Lens Flare
Levels
Linear Blur
Mask Generator
Median
Min and Max
Mirror
Pixelate
Quick Blur
Radial Blur
Radial Pixelate
Saturation Adjust
Sepia
Sharpen
Spherize
Stereoscopic 3D Adjust
Timecode
Unsharp Mask
White Balance

The following FX do allow animation:

Black Restore
Border
Channel Blend
Chroma Blur
Color Curves
Defocus
Deform
Film Effects
Film Grain
Glint
Gradient Map
Light Rays
News Print
Pinch/Punch
Rays
Soft Contrast
Starburst
Swirl
Threshold
TV Simulator
Wave

I noticed that the FX which do not allow keyframes and animation are all GPU-accelerated FX. Am I experiencing a bug or do I have something set incorrectly?

Have you clicked the Animate button?

OK . . . . .

I appreciate John's puzzlement: Why do some and not others. And I'll attempt to answer that one in saying that the FXs that have that hefty "Animate" button at the bottom of the FX Menu, only have ONE control e.g. "Black Restore". However, "Add Noise" has several Controls. And to animate each of those Controls FX TImelines, we need to click on that little "ClockFace" - something to happen over time(?). This will get you access to Animate for that Control, and it opens up ALL the FX timeline features.

So, single Control SONY FXs have the big animate button, and then SONY FXs that have Multiple Controls have an Animate Button to the Right of each and every Control.

Not expected, but a clever way for SCS to get us to control our multi-control FXs.

Grazie

That's the answer! Grazie, Grazie!

Did this change in 10 or 11?

I believe in version 10 some of the plugins started migrating to the new OFX format. Along with this migration can the redesigned UI. Version 11 supposedly has many more of the plugins as OFX versions now.

Seems a lot more confusing and less easy to use.
