Subject:VIA chipset and Athlon problems

This is my first post to this forum.
I'm using a VIA KT133 chipset, (recently upgraded) and am having some problems. When I go into record the system monitor goes off the scale. In record SF is using all my processing power so that Logic Audio (which I'm playing from)is running out of steam big time. Even with Logic switched off and SF recording nothing the monitor is off the scale. Playing back from SF is fine. I'm using an Athlon 1.2g and Ultra wide SCSI. I could really use some help with this.
Cheers

Open up your "Volume Control", goto Options>Properties>Recording, make sure all your input devices are shown in the mixer view, and then mute all the inputs you're not using, show be most everything besides the "Line In". Now just open Sound Forge and see if you still have the same problem.

Thanx for the reply.
Unfortunately I don't use the Windows wave device, it's disabled in my system. I'm using Soundscapes Mixtreme card which has it's own processors. I have checked the usage on that and it's minimal. So I'm still stumped. Has anyone else checked the kernal usage on the Windows System Monitor (Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Monitor) while recording in Sound Forge? Mine just maxes out immediately. Maybe it's just a really processor hungry application.

I have a VIA KT-133 chipset also, with a 700Mhz Athlon and 128Meg of RAM, running Windows 98se and Sound Forge 5.0 runs very smooth on this system. Sound Forge is not hog, unlike some Steinberg products I've tried out in the past. I would expect some kind of hardware conflict, maybe even your SCSI card, I had a problem running protools with my Tekram Scsi card before. I would create a new hardware profile and remove unneccessary hardware one device at a time, in this new profile until you found the troublesome piece. Then, after you find it, go see if there's an updated driver or firmware or bios update.

It's good you disabled the windows wave device. JUST IN CASE; there should be a bar in there too. Bring it all the way to the left to a setting of two seconds.

as for a via update I replied to another msg you had but here you go.

You should also consider purchasing another Hard Drive and saving all your audio files in there. So the HD reader isn't going back and forth between your program and audio files for every command you process.
