Subject:Sound Forge v8 - "Error Occurred while Saving"??

I am using Sound Forge v8.0 as an editor to Reaper but when I launch SF from Reaper the wav file imports fine, but after editing I get the :

"An Error occurred while saving one or more files"

The File could not be created"

All I am trying to do is overwrite a file with its new edits so it appears back in the Reaper timeline.

I'm sure this was working fine before but have no idea why this won't update, and overwrite my file?

Is it to do with disk access problems? or is there a preference in v8 that i need to 'tick'?

I dont want to keep editing and re-naming loads of files, so overwrite is better for me, whch as mentioned im sure was working the other day??

If the original file is open elsewhere, in Reaper for instance, this would be a normal occurrence. In this case, use 'Save as" and append the file name.
If Reaper has an 'Open copy in External editor' option like Vegas does, use that.

Really? this is normal?

Im sure i used to do this with the same file open in 2 locations, and could just 'save' over the top to update the file. Im sure this is possible with Acid Pro, and Vegas, and i've done it with Reaper..

If this isnt the case then, can i use "open copy in Soundforge" and saving 'over' with a simgle SAVE (without renaming a new file etc) that this would work every time?

I think after you mentioning that this is to do with Metadata, i unticked this and it was fine, then I got "This file couldn't be saved" ??

So again I think this was down to some hidden data file/overwrite problem??

I *think* I may have cured this, as looking around on the net, i read that .aiff format doesnt have the same data attached,

So I unticked 'include metadata' plus now use .aiff files, and so far so good?

Buckaroo, in Reaper | Options | Preferences you need to select 'Media' - "Set media items offline when application is not active" - thus Reaper will allow the file to be modified/saved by SoundForge.

Hi ChristoC, yes I always have Reaper "offline" so only one application is active at a time - so am unsure whether its this or not?

Well, I don't know what is wrong; works fine here, and I get exactly the error message you reported when I deselect "Set media items offline when application is not active" in Reaper.
