so i buy sf...has bugs ...http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=804650&Replies=4

decide to then buy Audition (now close to a combined 700)..adobe has the most convoluted cart system and then after you order they tell you the order is "pending"...really?

long story shot...no audio sweetening tonight...whats really weak is a few years ago i used sf and it was sable + without bugs will be interesting to see if audition is trouble free (if i ever get it!)

Have you looked at a great recording mixing program called 'N-Track"?

Relatively cheap and pretty powerful.

does it do what sf and audition do? actually all i really ever use is the pen tool + VST plugs for sound correction . (i just tried wavepad - a free one) and it wouldn't launch from vegas. i was also looking at http://www.reaper.fm

I don't know about the pen tool, but that doesn't sound familar. It is designed more for music recording and mixing. Has MIDI capabilites, metronome and the sort of things musicians need.

I was always under the impression that Audition was their competition to Acid....

Anyway...

Why not just have a separate instance of Vegas open to do your audio editing & then use those rendered files in your main .veg?

Why not install your old version of SF? It's linked to your account.

just tried http://www.reaper.fm not obvious that it would be a good replacement...lacks tools

audition used to be cool edit pro and its pretty mature all around audio tool, adobe has just had confusion about their audio offerings. from what i can tell...they had soundbooth with was great but no pen tool - just wizards...then they abandoned sb and rolled everything into audition

vegas has no pen tool right?

From the SF thread it sounds like your system is screwed up in some way. Because some other people have seen a similar problem does not mean that there is a fiundamental problem with SF, as thousands of people routinely use it without that problem.

Why not fix that, then figure out a sensible workflow (as suggested in that thread), and use SF.

Reaper is a DAW, Acid is a DAW, and Vegas sort of is a DAW, none are audio editors such as SF is, so none have 'pencil ediit' tools.

Might be cheaper to hire someone on the forum to fix your audio then keep buying new software.

The Pen tool is a feature of Apple software like Garage Band or Final Cut, but the Free Audacity software has a Pencil Tool that is similar.

Audacity does not work on w7 64bit?
JHendrix wrote on 3/11/2012, 10:50 AM
anyone ever try pro tools as editor with vegas? (forget it...i just tried...no go)
JHendrix wrote on 3/11/2012, 11:13 AM
@ Geoff_Wood

yes on a nearly virgin system that is not on the internet...you tell me what to "fix"

Reaper is an extremely powerful tool and while technically it is a DAW is capable of doing as much editing as one might ever need. Another very powerful choice is goldwave. Cost effective and very good. Audition is good but tries to be too many things and lacks direction. GL!

i installed reaper...looks awesome but no pen tool...i saw there are other ways of doing sample level editing with it apparently but did not get that far

Windows updates for a start.

I just built a 'new' XP system that immediatedly required 149 updates to bring up to spec, including several major .NET (that Vegas and SF rely on) updates.
