Subject:ERROR: Another Application Has Deleted Your File!!!

Since installing 5.0d, I have been getting the error "Another application has modified the WAV file. The peak information will now be rebuilt."

What does this mean? I haven't any other programs open other than Windows Explorer, maybe. This seems to happen if I am performing a lengthy operation, like DC offset on a large file, and I switch to another application, like Explorer, while SF is doing its thing.

I have also received more serious-sounding errors, like "Another application has deleted the WAV file. If you do not save now you will lose your WAV file" (not an exact quote). Again, I may have switched to another application and back to SF, but I have not deleted any files during the process. Since I use Direct mode a lot, it should be impossible to delete a file that SF has open.

So, again, what's going on?!?

Ain't no viruses on my machine, unless it's called Sound Forge 5.0d!

It's always easy to blame the new software. It won't hurt to make sure.

If you ARE sure your machine has not been infected try reinstalling SF. If not, SF has a tech support email. They really don't monitor this board or offer much info. I think that is so people will utilize the support system (iin other words, PAY for it).

There may be an issue with Sound Forge 5.0 not properly handling bogus filetimes on some systems, which could cause this. There will be a special internal pref in the next update, called "Validate files on activate" that will block this behavior when set to false. In the meantime, and since this is such a pain in the ass for some folks, you can enable it now if you are comfortable with regedit:

1) open regedit
2) navigate to HKCU\Software\Sonic Foundry\Sound Forge\5.0\Metrics3) Edit->New->DWORD Value
4) name the new value "10032" (no quotes) and leave its data value as 0x00000000 (0).

Sorry for the pain.
J.

What is the expected rollout date for the next update?
