RENAMING A PROJECT

JohnJ wrote on 3/4/2012, 11:31 AM
In earlier versions of Vegas I could rename a project by going to File and choosing Rename from the drop down menu. As Vegas Pro11 does not seem to have this facility, could someone please tell me how to do it without using Save As which duplicates all the files?

Thank you

File - Save As - give it a new name and delete the old project file.
For example, load up "Video-2011.veg", save it as "Video-2012.veg" and then delete "Video-2011.veg".
The only thing changed is the veg file and that's quite small.

"Save As" will work fine .... just make sure you uncheck "Copy Media with Project"
  • Velocity Micro Z55 Desktop Computer
  • ASUS Prime Z270M-Plus Motherboard
  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.2GHz
  • Memory: 16GB DDR4-2400MHz
  • 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Driver Version: Studio Driver 452.06
  • Windows 10 Home 64bit v1909
  • Vegas Pro 18.0 Build 284

You can also find the project with your Windows Explorer and make a copy, then rename the copy. I often do that as a safeguard to the "Save As" function because sometimes I'm not paying close attention and end up choosing "Save" instead of "Save As" after I have made major changes. OOPS!

Save As does NOT duplicate all the files, unless you have the box ticked to save media too. It is not selected by default.

You can also rename the VEG file by any other of the normal Windows means outside of Vegas, or within Vegas in any Load or Save diagolgue, or in Vegas's Explorer.
