Subject:Windows 2008 Server Acid Music studio errors MIDI

ok so when I had windows xp and vista installed my acid music studio program works fine and all. Now that I have windows standard 2008 installed, the recording midi option "Arm for Record" is dsiabled (grayed out). If I try to use some other features of the porgram I keep getting an error write access message which involes user32,gui error descriped below (Like if I check the audio clip properties out and use the clip player to play the current clip). Why is it that i'm only having this problem with 2008 and yet it works fine with xp and vista?

First make sure you download and install the latest update for ACID.

We don't support the version of Windows you are using. I don't know why there would be a difference, but it is not a version of the OS we target. One guess is that server does not support the DLS soft synth provided by Windows on the server version or that the MIDI I/O architecture required by ACID is not supported.

I understand that you don't support Server operating systems. Also I tried your other products(Trials) and they all pretty much do the same thing. I have the latest updates for Acid and people from MS are telling me to contact Sony about it.

Whats in vista the acid music studio needs that's not available in 2008?

Acid Music DLS Soft synth problem?
Right now i'm currently running windows 2008 on my laptop with the specs:
Dell Inspiron 1545
OS Requirements (XP,Vista or 7)
OS Installed Windows server 2008 STD
Memory: 2 GB
Type: 32 Bit
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00 GHz 2.00 GHz


This works fine when I have windows xp and if i'm not mistaken vista installed.

Now When I have Windows 2008 Server STD installed The DLS Synth is not loaded on Acid and is no wheres to be found. I can only use MS sound mapper for my midi.

How do I get my DLS sound synth back and working?

I tried it under a virtual machine in xp to make sure it works and it does, and when I had xp installed on my laptop I had no probems either. If i'm not mistaken it worked fine with vista too. I have not tried it under 7 but its not working for me with Windows 2008.

I need Server 2008 installed for the ASP server.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be going on and is there something in Vista and xp the enables it but in 2008 is disabled or something?

The DLS is not a VST. It is a DirectX component supplied by MS. MS had not included the DLS synth with some versions of the OS. There was no 64 bit version and intially they were not going to include it on 32 bit Vista.

I do not believe there is a way to get it on server. Only MS could answer that.

It does exist on win7, though I don't know about new versions of server.

Well that sounds like some good news as it would explain what it is. Now is there anyway if installing it manually if its not supplied with 2008 or that is not possible?

Thanks Pete. You said that its one of the Direct X plugin in if i'm not mistaken. Well I know that this is available in Vista,XP and I assume in 7 as well. Its not available in any server operating systems so is there anyway I can force the install and force it to work?

It is not a DirectX plugin. It is a component of the overall DirectX technologies, specifically a part of DirectSound. Even more specifically, DirectMusic.

Only Microsoft can tell you whether it can be installed on server.

I suggest you google your problem to see if any other brave server users have solved this problem.

Well somone from Microsoft said that I had to install a Media Service which claims it has this built into it.

Now when I run acid the arm for record is still disabled and the acid sound synth dls is still missing.

how ever when I try to use the beatmap wizard again it crashes with a different error which I posted at the topic over at the Microsoft forums.

This is the error I now get:

"ok thank you for you help Dollar Wang. I installed the update and enabled the role in the server manager. I'm still having the same problem though. Edit* Also I just checked the settings under my server roles and for that Media Role I have this error

The Windows Media server failed.
Error code: 0xc00d1583
Error text: The plug-in 'WMS Advanced FF/RW Format Media Parser' cannot be loaded on this version of Windows.

I have windows 2008 Server Standard installed.

Also does my server support or have installed?:

1. DirectSound

2. DirectMusic

3. Able to play and use DLS sound font files
