Hi there, I am using SF 5 and I am mastering some old vinil LP. I have to use the "Click and Crakle removal", because some disks are very bad and the sign is dirty of clicks. I have noted that there is a function called "Keep residual output" and I have tested this function, but I have seen disappering the wave of the sound, while the click and crakle wave is obtained. I don't konw how can use it in a right way and I will appreciate if someone can explain how it works. Thank |

By using the "keep residual output" feature you are able to make sure that you are not removing any of the wanted information, just the unwanted clicks/crackles. If you hear any of the wanted signal in the "residual output" (along with the clicks/crackles) you know you are applying the processing too strongly and need to adjust one or more of the parameters to reduce the severity of the processing. Once you are happy that you have a combination of settings that nicely reduces the unwanted clicks/crackles without affecting the wanted signal you can untick the box and return to the normal mode to actually apply the process. I think I know what you are talking about; I forgot to uncheck the Keep Residual Output box when I processed the file, and what happens is that you end up with the clicks and crackles and the music goes away. The Keep Residual Output is only for listening, not for processing!!!! You only use it to hear what the C&C function will REMOVE from (the Noise) and then uncheck the box and process the file. Hope this helps. K2 |
