Right to Left Text in Sony Vegas

Sometime in the not too distant past, someone started on a thread with how to deal with right-to-left text being pasted into Sony Vegas Text. I can't remember if anyone came up with the solution for a big headache I'm having.

Whenever I paste (Hebrew in this case) into Vegas Text the words are their but strangely the words are put in reverse order. For example, "A dog bit the man on his hand", would look like "hand his on man the bit dog A"!

Any help appreciated as I have a large amount of Hebrew text I would like to paste.

edit: I searched for "right to left text" but couldn't find the thread myself. Hoping someone will remember and point me to it.

I haven't seen the original post but I had a thought about your problem. What happens if you use the Mirror function in Pan/Crop before trying to run the text from Right to Left.
I'm not at my editing computer and am having trouble visualizing exactly what this would do. Might be worth a try, though.

Thanks for the reply Jack. I tried the "flip horizontal" too in pan/crop but that doesn't solve the problem. Actually what I said in my original post isn't quite accurate. The sentence "The dog bit my hand" would look like "god tib ym danh".

The weird thing is that the text looks correct when you paste it into the Sony Text Editor but is wrong when you look at the final output.

Erik, I think folks have done the text in something like Photoshop, saved it as an image file (PNG so that it retains the alpha channel) and brought that into Vegas.

Mike, I found the solution using Photoshop but it must be a Middle East version of Photoshop to work. If you paste the Hebrew text into regular Photoshop you get the same results as you do when pasting into Vegas.

Only the ME version accounts for right to left text and allows proper formatting for exporting to PNG with alpha and then importing into Vegas. Painful but at least it works.

Hi

In version 11, the new Title and Text - works fine with hebrew.
The old text - you need to type in reverse.

Here is a simple solution to the problem that doesn't require Photoshop and the text will work inside Vegas!! Go to a text inverter site like:
http://www.modernketubah.com/article_reverse_hebrew.php

When you paste your text there they have software to invert the text. You can then copy and paste into Vegas and again the text works perfectly!

Wow - nice to see how many users we are in Israel (or at least using Hebrew)

I found a cool utility - Used to be called "Hafuch al Hafuch" upside-down on upside-down

you select text and it reverses it for you in the proper way - then when you paste it into Vegas it reverses back to normal.

Just make sure to split your lines before the conversion - because breaking up lines in Hebrew (or other bi-di) is ugly -

The software is now called Langover.com

enjoy
