My Acid Pro 7 is starting to freeze or shut down every 10 minutes or so on average--I get either a "Acid Pro is Shutting Down" or "Acid Pro is not responding" message in a dialog box and the only thing I can do is close out of Acid Pro altogether. I suspect there could be various diagonses for this, but curious if there are any particularly common reasons for this type of thing that I should be looking into. Note that my projects are not particularly complex (generally 10 or fewer tracks and just a couple of plug-ins). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thx.

Is the computer always on? If so, did you try a restart?

You want to keep a DAW as lean and mean as possible. Don't have anything that doesn't have anything to do with your music-making running in the background if you can help it.

Re-starting/re-booting doesn't really help. I'm not running other programs when I run Acid Pro. Can't use Acid Pro for more than 5-10 minutes without it freezing/stopping. Any other thoughts?

Sometimes non compatible plug-ins can throw it into a tailspin.Worst comes to worst you could always re-download Acid. You might have to rescan some stuff, but that's what I have done in the past when all else fails.

Which plugins are you using that are common to the projects when you crash?

Are you using ASIO audio drivers?

You may want to try reseting ACID's pefs.

Hold down shift+control when you start ACID. You will be prompted to reset.

This will remove any preference settings you have made.

You may first want to rescan your VST plugins from the PlugIn Manager.

Garritan and Steinberg's The Grand 3 my two plug-ins.

Yes--ASIO audio drivers

Tried reseting ACID--got prompted to approve Acid Pro making changes to my computer, I clicked yes and then Acid started to open (was anything else supposed to happen?)

To rescan plugins, do I simply go to plug-in manager, highlight the plug-in and press scan--or does it involve more (like removing the plug-in from the plug-in manager and reinstating it)?

Thanks.

Are you using the MIDI ports of the Tascam?

If so, disable them in ACID and see if the problem continues. We have seen issues with the Tascam MIDI devices causing lock ups.
