After my last post I have now jumped forward somewhat in my SF versions from 5.0 to version 8.0 with VST fx and non-destructive editing.. One thing I've always meant to ask is, when making a selection on say a string pad .wav file and higlighting half of it to process say a reverb effect... How do you do this gradually so that the reverb fades in slightly and doesn't "click" between processed and un-processed? My selections always 'click' between fx and non fx if i'm editing a single wav file with different fx processes, is there a smooth setting that would allow tiny fades in or the like, so that fx seamlessly "blend" from dry parts? and I don't necessarily mean Automation which I believe you can do in this verison, but just a blend between wet and dry so there are no clicks? A work-around I have used (when not wanting to fork around with automation) is to copy the file and create a 'reverb only' wet track. Adjust your fade in/outs, copy the 'wet track' and use the 'Mix' process. If you start from the head of the file, place the timeline cursor there and select "Edit> Paste Special> Mix" ( or.. keyboard shortcut "Ctrl+ M" or just right-click and select "Mix". Unfortunately you have to pre mix the reverb track fade-in but the global wet/dry mix will be adjustable via the 'Clipboard' and 'Destination' faders. If you start from a set marker position, for instance, a few seconds before the reverb comes in, you may not have to pre-mix the fade-in, as you will have the option to try different fade-in types and lengths. ( if the fade-in type / length parameter was available in SF-8) Remember to copy and save your original track. |

Not sure if this feature was available in SF 8, but in SF 10, at the bottom of most (at least most Sony) effects, there is a, "More" button, which allows you to control fading in and/or out an effect. You could try that, assuming this button is available in SF 8. Not sure there is another way to have envelope control over FX automation, which is basically what you're asking for. Rob. |

I think the workaround is probably the best solution, but pasting to a new track the part i need, and processing that 100% (muting the gap in the original) and pasting the fx version back in Its long winded but it works - I can't seem to find any 'more' button on the fx so maybe thats not implemented until version 9 or 10? |

It's always best practice to apply (or remove) effects only at zero-crossings, whether a fade or a crash edit. Message last edited on3/2/2012 6:49:43 PM bymusicvid10. |

Yes of course, and only recently i found the zero crossings key command when zoomed in - but I can't remember it?!! It seemed really handy for adjusting the start.end points |

In the Prefereces settings, automatic zero-crossings can be enabled/disabled, you can also choose to have elements in the timeline snap to zero-crossings. To toggle auto snap to zero crossings on/off the keyboard shortcuts is "Ctrl+B" At least is in SF-10, I would think most of the shortcuts and parameters are the same for SF-8. |

Thanks but I thought there was something really neat I only found a couple of months ago! that when I held down ctrl?? or similar whilst dragging the start point with mouse, that it did zero crossings, instead of actually having a menu item on? |

I did a simple search in the help menu... SHIFT + Z snaps the edge to zero. In fact, if you just hit the 'z' key it will snap both edges of a selection to zero. Rob. Message last edited on3/4/2012 2:02:58 PM byroblesinge. |
