I am using Sound forge 4.5h and 5.0f on the same computer (years old I know) but they work great. But every now and again from my plug ins list, certain plug ins like TC reverb and especially the Waves plug ins come up with (when launched) "The Plug in ***** could not be run. One or more components required to run this plug in maybe missing (80040154h)" Can anyone tell me why this error occurs randomly? Then once its happened the plug in can never load again? Help! |

If it helps, I have a copy of SF 8.0 (thats the furthest I went in updates a few years ago) Would installing this help sort my plug ins, as SF8.0 was more recent and could load VST plug ins? Would everything play nice and fall into place? Then on my Acid Pro 3.0 I could use all 3 editors, in my preferences :) |

If you have SF-8, install it. That should run most VST plug-ins. Unfortunately I don't have clue why the TC reverb and Waves plugs would stop working.. assuming they're Direct X. FYI, SF did not support VST plugs until ver. 7.0. (as I recall) Prior to that, a third-party 'VST wrapper' was needed to run VSTs. I remember SF 4.5 and 5 fondly, however I don't know how I ever got anything done on time without real-time preview and the plug-in chainer. |

I have run and installed my last Version 8 and the Waves plugs now seem to work all ok? Maybe the newer version just sorted something out? The only reason I didn't use v8 is because of the loss of "Direct Mode" after version 5.0. I know it has "Undo past save" which I suppose is the same thing? Or is it? I like to work directly on my sound file without loads of temp and backup files |

"I know it has "Undo past save" which I suppose is the same thing?" >> Not exactly, There was recent discussion on this... Edit: See: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=3&MessageID=801103 Anyway, "Undo past save" wasn't available until SF Pro 9 or 10, which has the option of saving a <.frg> project file." which like Vegas, is non-destructive, so there's no need to frequently save incremental back-ups if that fits your work flow better. I like to work directly on my sound file without loads of temp and backup files >> I can understand that Buck. But drive space is relatively cheap these days and you can always delete the back-ups and temp files when the project is complete. Message last edited on2/27/2012 2:48:27 PM byrraud. |

I have SF8.0 and Undo past save is indeed in that version! What exactly are the differences with Direct Mode and "undo past save"? I have in my options to delete all sfk files on exit and temp files, so maybe once I exit and finish the edit, that I have cleaned out the files anyway? |

So SF-8 can save a SF project <.frg> file? My mistake. Thanks for the clarification. The .sfk file are very small waveform 'data' files, which allows fast waveform builds of an previously opened or saved audio file. The temp. (or proxy) type files, which are not so small. But in event of a crash allows recovery. Not so with the earlier direct mode if I recall correctly. I also don't recall any undo in the direct mode.. though it's been a while The normal edit mode produced a proxy, or copy, so the original file remained untouched until saved, in which, it was overwritten. the undo option and edit history is available until the file is closed. Though I don't use it much, the project file mode is like Vegas, non-destructive, an edited project is rendered to a WAVE or other format. Not sure about any temp files. I assume the <.frg> EDL data file is real small. |
