2d Shadows

Art5 wrote on 2/10/2012, 6:21 AM
I made the mistake of udating vegas 11 in the middle of a project.
I cannot load the last 4 versions of a project, but can load earlier ones. One main difference between them is that the new projects had 2 d shadows on in a couple tracks. 2d shadows in now completely broken in Vegas 11, but still works in Vegas 10?? ( the interface is there but I cannot create a 2d shadow on a still over video. I can in vegas 10. Suggestions please. My project is due very soon. I don't want to have to redo it all in Vegas 10.
Thanks
P.S. I also installed New Blue Fx in the middle of the project. Can that be used to create a simple 2d drop shadow on photos over video?

Create a new 2d track select the track or tracks that need a shadow and place them inside the new track = child parent arrow and select shadow of new track.

I'm pretty sure this is what I have already done. The problem is that the 2d shadow does not appear in preview. I have not tried rendering yet.
I just discovered that I can create a 2d shadow in New Blue FX which I have not used at all. But that would mean creating a new generated fx for every image I had in my former project. What you described works in Vegas 10 . for me not in 11. I have reinstalled the original version. That does not work either.

I just created a simple project with 2 still images.
One is in a main video track the other is above it in another video track .
I turned on 2d shadows in Vegas10. Adjusted the drop shadow. Everthing works fine
Save that .veg project. Then load it into Vegas11. and 2d shadow disappears.
Settings are the same. This is a bug in Vegas 11.

I have screen caps but don't know how to share in this forum.

I did exactly (?) as you describe in VP 10e. Opened in VP11 and all is fine, shadow and all. Seems I cannot reproduce.

Edit: Just an update. Tried it with GPU on and off - still not able to reproduce.

@Art5
Do you have GPU acceleration turned on? I haven't had your issue exactly, but with my GPU (QuadroFX1800 - bottom of the supported cards) I have to turn off acceleration to get consistent behavior with shadows in V11.

I'm stumped? Is there a pref.s file for Vegas11? I noticed when I reinstalled the original version some of my prefs were the same. I'm thinking to delete that file?
Or go and put a drop shadow on every image in Photoshop and substitute images. There used to be a replace file option in 7 and 8. I don't see it in 11.

Atom 12,
I think you're on to something. Stupid question? Where do I turn off GPU acceleration? I know what it is, just not where to find it.

ATI Radeon HD 5570 Card

Options>Preferences>Video. GPU acceleration. You should have an option to select your particular card or "off". Then you have to restart Vegas for it to take effect.

Thanks Larry, The only option I have is OFF.

If I did the link right you should see both V.10 with shadow and V11 without. Same project.

It looks like you have the SPLIT PREVIEW selected in V11. Turn this off.

Bingo :-) Thank you very much Dave. Such a simple mistake. Wow. Thanks again.

Yep, we all miss those silly little things now and then. For what it's worth, NBFX has the shadow option in the PIP filters.
