Departure from forums - indefinite

musicvid10 wrote on 2/8/2012, 7:11 PM
Due to the repeated actions of one or two tragically insecure participants, I am taking indefinite leave of these forums.

If anyone is interested in the apparent failure of ATSC/A85 aka The CALM Act (US only), I have uploaded the original pdf file here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20519276/Super%20Bowl%20vs.%20CALM%202012.png

Since the original thread on this topic will undoubtedly be deleted due to yet another act of sabotage by one of those participants, I am providing this as a point of reference for future discussion, should it occur.

I highly recommend anyone interested in this topic review the official documentation and the entire discussion here, before drawing any conclusions that would compel a response to the data presented.
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=732917

Since the same one or two individuals harbor apparently personal interests in sabotaging almost every challenge presented here, I have no interest in continuing anything remotely resembling a dispassionate, yet provocative discourse on topics of mutual interest (to most of us).

Taking my cue from johnmeyer (John Meyer), who I respect immensely, it's best I take a break for a while, and hopefully return at some point without the burden of petty cowardice by others whose only interest is to command attention over knowledge.

My very best to you all. Until then . . .

;?)

I come here mainly to learn rather than voice or read opinions, especially when they become vindictive or too strong. I just skip those and read the info for what it's worth.

Your input will be missing and you bring obvious experience and insight about Vega and video audio in general.

I understand your decision however, look for you in the future.

Come back when you can. I will miss your knowledgeable comments.

I can only add my voice to what will undoubtably be a considerable number of other forum members who will be most unhappy to see you leave.

Musicvid has made an invaluable contribution to this forum. He has expended considerable personal resources to help others and has bought a rare level of professional expertise and behavior to this place.
Beyond and above that he has tolerated my meandering and provocative posts. I for one shall certainly miss him and sincerely hope he returns as soon as possible.

Bob.

Musicvid - don't go for long. Your presence will certainly be missed. It's really too bad that the Forumadmin took away the "ignore user" function that used to be here. At any rate, I know exactly how you feel because it's for a similar reason that I will not help forum users fix their computers any longer.

MusicVid, maybe I missed something, but what the heck are you talking about?

MusicVid, maybe I missed something, but what the heck are you talking about? There is another thread -- one that he started a day or so ago:

OT: Super Bowl XLVI vs. The CALM Act -- Who Won?

and for reasons that I don't understand, he just kind of lost it part way through the thread. His reactions didn't make any sense, although I think he took exception to a phrase "The spreadsheet in your first post shows the lie in your statement" made by Bob.

Unfortunately, MusicVid is apparently not familiar with this common idiom:

"Give the lie to"

and the Aussie version obviously made him think he was being accused of telling lies. If you read the whole thread, it still isn't clear why the reaction was so strong and sustained, especially since he's been around long enough to know that Bob isn't generally a rabble rouser.

Both Bob (farss) and Musicvid have contributed a lot, and hopefully this all will pass quickly.

Oh, I get it now. I thought I might have missed some real fireworks, it's nothing like the battles Spot and I used to have with BillyBoy. It's a simple misunderstanding, nothing to see here, moving along...

humming till you come back and solve some more of my problems ;-(

I don’t get it.

“Due to the repeated actions of one or two tragically insecure participants, I am taking indefinite leave of these forums.”

Ok. so then you resort to actions reflecting your tragic insecurity.
Geoff_Wood wrote on 2/9/2012, 2:52 AM
For most of the English-speaking world, the term "Give the lie to" means "prove wrong".

Musicvid, please reconsider - it is simply a misunderstanding, as far as I can see....

Man, why don't we just keep this forum 'On Topic' and deal with Vegas issues?
Take all the other 'Off Topic'/non Vegas things to facebook, myspace, (insert $h!tty site here).

Sounds like a few of you personally know each other so why don't you just call each other on the phone or send eMails instead of bombarding the forum with your personal banter?

Wow!! What a shocker! musicvid is one of the most valuable contributors to this forum. Much of what I know about video and Sony Vegas is a direct result of musicvid's posts.

As a result of the http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?ForumID=4&MessageID=756343Vegas to Youtube, Vimeo, Web -- A New Look[/link] thread, I have had considerable direct dialog with musicvid, both on and off this forum and I'm proud to call him a friend.

I'll add my voice to those that are calling for musicvid to "stay, don't leave", but I also understand the contentiousness of some of these discussions and further understand the need for participants to "take a break".

So... "take a break", but please, please come back very soon!

I agree 100% with you to keep the forum 'On topic'. I suggested long ago that the forum should be moderated similar to Creative Cow and was told in so many words to shut up. If you take a look at the Lightworks forum, this is how imho a forum should run. Keep all the ot trivia to Faecebook etc. I too have benefited from musicvids inputs.

Bob and Musicvid, could I add by saying you are both well respected on this forum, even when there is disagreement, a positive result usually comes at the end.
It reads like a misunderstanding to me, words being taken in a way not intended.

my 10p's worth.

"Shows the lie" is probably not a phrase I would use because it is not commonly used and therefore easily misinterpreted. One of the problems of electronic communication is that we don't get to see the person's expression or hear the tone of their voice.

However, regardless of intent, it seems that Bob's last post on the first thread, entered early this AM, contains a sincere apology. I'm not sure what else he could have said at this point. Hope Musicvid reads it and reconsiders - I've learned much from his posts.

I sincerely appreciate all the contributions from Musicvid to this forum, as do I Bob's. They're two reasons I spend so much time here. Hope to keep hearing a lot more from both.

I was just thinking the other day how much I enjoy reading through some of the postings from members of the forum that may never apply to a particular situation I am experiencing. Nonetheless, I appreciate them simply because of the knowledge and experience of some folks who hang around here and contribute what seems to be day or night regardless of which side of the globe we are inhabiting.

With few exceptions, over many years I have always considered the discussion as civil and respectful. I hope it continues with everyone's full participation.

I too am deeply saddened. I've learned a lot from the regular posters here, MusicVid among them. Communication is so difficult as I relearn every day.

I remember BillyBoy.

There was another fellow back then that used to drive me nuts with his rants. Can't remember his name, but he would be critical of, for example, the fact that one could hit the "cancel" button while doing a long render, thus stopping the render. Things like that.

I've found myself in similar situations, where a simple misunderstanding on my part, set off my short fuse and in quite the drama-queen fashion, I left in a huff. (not here but in a couple of other forums). In one case my pride was too strong for me to back down and admit the misunderstanding, I left for a couple of months and then quietly started posting again.

But then again there were times when the perceived abuse was real and in addition to having a short fuse, like a lot of artists, I don't exactly have a thick skin. So again I left until I cooled off a bit.

There are still a few people in other forums that I still will not associate with because they are total jerks, and I make no apologies for that. But in this case I think that the combination of a misunderstanding and a sensitive person (like myself) resulted in this quasi-Internet suicide.

You all know that it's hard to tell someone's tone in a written post, more than once I misinterpreted that tone completely, only to find that once again I overreacted. So I can understand the OP's position, but I'd ask him to take a moment, take a deep breath and maybe settle this off-line, where pride is not on display to the general public.

Just my 2 cents.
