Hello. A lot of literature on audio mastering software keeps on using both terms-> spectral profile and eq curves in the context of matching diff songs to sound alike. Googling didn't give me anything. So what are the differences between eq curves and spectral profiles of an audio recording or song? Both these terms are never implied to be the same in any of the stuff I've read.diff |

A spectral profile is a "graph" or "curve" representing levels of the frequencies present in a particular sound averaged through time. An EQ curve is a "graph" or "curve" representing levels of the frequencies being changed or adjusted in an Equalizer; usually static i.e. not changing through time. If you were trying to 'match' the sound of one song to another by observing their different spectral profiles and applying an EQ to one of them to make it 'sound' crudely like the other, I imagine the EQ curve required would be represenatative of the calculated difference between the respective spectral profiles..... |
