Hi guys, I am new to using Vegas Movie 11 HD and also not familiar with SoundForge. I am not familiar with the soundforge software and or audio editing in terms of video production. I am a musician and generally have a good understanding of mixing music though. But they are not really the same, in a way. You use different tools in your video software which are sometimes rather limited. Anyway, I need some help. What are some good basic audio editing methods for dealing with audio and or in conjunction with Soundforge and the effects. I wish they had a manual or help section for what the effects actually do in there. I tried using Audio restoration and put it on the master, but it started making some weird beep-boop-boop clicks about ever 3-5 seconds. And if I rendered the video to make an mp4 file, it would add those mechanical clicks. I noticed if I clicked on the effect button in the master area-it would stop-maybe reset it? I don't know why it does that. Anway, some of the audio from the cheap digi-cam I used had digital clipping and was too loud basically. And some spots were too soft. I was hoping the "audio restoration" would level it out like a "normalize type button or effect, but I don' teven know how to use it that well. I know you can use envelopes to edit the sound generally, but I noticed the files are so little in the video software that it' seems hard to do very specific audio editing, if you don't see the particular clip blown up and magnified. How do I stretch the whole timeline out without changing any of it so I can see what areas I want to edit clearly?? I saw a little zoom tool in the corner, but not sure how to use that very well. One guy recommended using/trying the compression effect. Maybe that would work better than the audio restoration effect. What do you recommend for making reasonable audio- quality sound-use the envelopes first and then some effects? Not looking to make a masterpiece on simple sounds from a cheap digi-cam mic. Just want it decent. The piece I uploaded to Youtube-I used the audio restoration effect and tweaked the parameter at top-"amount" untill it didn't clip anymore and tried some minor envelope editing. You can look and listen to the piece if you click on my handle and go to the website at Youtube(jazzy ramen noodles). Kinda wondering what other people do that are good basic audio editing methods for video. I've already watched the audio editing tutorial. it's not really that comprehensive and specific. Like how do you take ALL your audio clips and get them into Soundforge? Select them all-group and then copy or import into Soundforge? I know you can do more specific things in the audio software than the video software. Might be easier to edit it in there, than movie studio, etc.. I've been using Cakewalk software for years and have Sonar Producer x1 now. So there's kinda a bridge and learning curve I need to fill in between editing audio in video software and simply recording music and mixing it down and then taking that audio clip and importing it into video software-which is what I did when making music videos. know what I'm saying? Thanks for any help and suggestions. Message last edited on1/28/2012 1:48:15 PM bybyudog. |

Audio clips are generally compiled in Vegas or another 'mullti-track' program. Sound Forge is primarily an editing mastering program and often used in conjunction with Vegas for processing individual tracks, stereo tracks or stems. If audio was not initially recorded correctly, there's not a whole lot that can be done.. some use the analogy, "polishing a turd". |

You can easily polish a turd. But you have to freeze it first .... geoff |
