Staggering with Vertical Credit Scrolling?

Grazie wrote on 1/22/2012, 5:03 AM
OK:

1] 1440x1080i Project AND media. All matched.

2] Insert 45 seconds of Text. And the use the Placement Tab in the SONY Text to achieve Vertical Scrolling.

3] Burn to DVD of that section, remove DVD RW and place in my Test DVD FTB and through SCART connection to my LCD LG screen it flows as it should.

4] Take this to my SONY HDMI "out" FTB or play in my PC DVD player and I get momentary judders.

What have I tried:

A] Rendered out to MXF and Burnt DVD from T/L. Same results.

B] Rendered Uncompressed, and use this back on T/L to Burn to DVD. Same results.

C] I have singled out this text Event and repeated the above in a NEW instance of VP10. Same results.

D] Slowed down scroll, from 41 seconds to 74seconds. Same results, actually even worse.

Observations:

* Horizontal scrolls are perfect.

* BIG Font size WORDS in another Event are perfect. I have 2 font sizes in this Vertical scroll: 20 and 28.

I'm nearly at the point of replacing with single 10 x static text sections and forget the vertical scroll altogether.

TIA

Cheers

G

Don't worry. I went for statics.

No worries but you have my sympathy.
Whetever it was / is it seems related to how Vegas generates text.
Move it around, especially vertically and it can look fine on some devices and suffer from a number of artifacts on others. Over the years I've invested many hours trying to grapple with this and I know many others here have done the same.
John Meyer's suggestion that the scroll rate should be an integer number of pixels is one path I've been down. it does yield some improvement however I'm left with an issue with this.
Watch OTA or a DVD from a Hollywood movie. Maybe, just maybe the original text was done using JM's method using a top shelf titler but if it was film or overseas content the frame rate has been changed so it's no longer complying with the "magic" numbers. It still looks perfect. With OTA I recently notice the broadcaster speeding up the credits and squishing them. Still no problems. The only conclusion I can reach is there's something inherent in the way Vegas generates text that is not good.

The description of the problem might possibly indicate an issue with the playback equipment rather than with the render itself. Like so many other situations, the artifact being described is sometimes difficult to visualize without actually seeing the video. "Judder" is definitely not something that I would associate with an incorrectly rendered text scroll, so my initial instinct is to look elsewhere. The fact that it plays fine on one device also is a clue.

I have found that quite a few software players, and also my son's Xbox 360, connected to my big screen TV via HDMI, often exhibit jerkiness and judders with all sorts of material (including DVDs) that I know for an absolute fact do not contain bad video. This includes commercially-produced DVDs. I am pretty certain in both cases that the fault lies in the playback equipment.

So, the first thing I would try is some other source that can play the file.

Thanks guys......

John going through SCART to LCD was fine. On my partner's Laptop was monetarily juddery. Totally headbanging.

Anyways, went for statics and playing on both SONY HDMI OUT to 42" BRAVIA is spiffing, as us the laptop.

Off to the client tomorrow for a "soft" launch. Sounds majestic, but from here on in it will live in the archives of the Lottery as another evaluation. Hey ho......

Cheers blokes

Try tossing on a .001 Gaussian blur, and reducing the whites to 225.

Thanks Douglas. I did all that over the Weekend. No improvement . .
