So what currently availabe IDE / ATAPI drives DO work?

I've seen the list over at http://theacf.com/cda/ and I know about Colin Hill's excellent utilities over at http://projecteva.net/index.shtml that allow CD-A files to be burnt on many NON-supported drives (BTW, does it "line up" with CD's that were burned on CD-A? IOW, does a PQ sheet printed out on paper using CD-A match up exactly with the CD's burnt in Colin's programs so the duplicators don't get confused?) but I'm interested in what else anyone may be using that is a currently available drive on the market and DOES work with the ATAPI MME generic drive option.

Thanks!

Well, I'm fairly confident that CDPBurn puts all of the tracks and indexes exactly where the CD Architect project file indicates they should be. My assumption is that CDA would burn them in the same place. But, if other people can definatively say whether or not this is the case, I'd be interested to hear.

Well...mine is listed on the site but I'll mention it anyway. Best Buy has been having some good prices on TDK drives the last couple weeks. They are offering $50 rebates on certain drives. I bought the TDK VeloCD 16x10x40 for $130 + tax = $140 - $50 mailin rebate = $90 net price. Includes BurnProof technology and ships with Nero Burning ROM and a junky TDK mp3/audio app which I deinstalled it was so bad. Works good with CDA (especially after adding my drive to the DLL). It was tough not going with a SCSI burner like I had before (4x Yamaha) but the price won me over. No real complaints so far.

Hi Colin, and thanks for all your work on the CD-A support programs.

Well, I was able to get a new drive that works with the ATAPI MMC method just fine... actually it's a bit of an older drive, but apparently refurbished units (at least) are still available. It's an Acer CRW8432a 8 X 4 X 32. I paid $60 for it from a local computer shop. You can get more info on it at:

http://www.eacer.com/eacer/newac8432icd.html

I only post this info for general info only - I don't work for Acer and have no undisclosed interest in the company - I'm just mentioning a drive that is still on the market that is know to work.

Now that I have a drive that works from within CD-A again, I'll use it to burn a CD and then use your app (Colin) to burn a second CD, and then compare them and get back to you.
