Subject:Acid Pro when From Sonic Foundry to Sony ?

I have an old computer from a few years back and am weighing up whether to install Acid Pro 3 or Acid Pro 4.

One main thing that i see in the press is tha Acid Pro v4.0 is both Sonic Foundry on some ads/reviews and Sony on others - Did Sony buy half way through this version? (I know Acid 5.0 was Sony)

Also what are the main differences or CPU differences between v3 and v4?

I have both and no need to go any higher, but would like the more efficient and stable version really, as v3.0 does all I need, but thought that maybe v4 had slightly better video playback features? (which I use from time to time)

Any help would be great thanks.

From what I could glean from their respective manuals (and since it's been awhile), ACID Pro 4 was a huge leap feature-wise compared to version 3; it introduced being able to route MIDI to VSTis, effects automation and ASIO driver support, amongst other things.

The manuals are available via Support > Manuals at the top of this page. Look for the link to the manuals for all ACID versions.

I believe that was the time the whole Sonic Foundry software line transitioned to Sony Creative as well.

I can't recall any major stability issues either between the two.

Thanks mD.

I did read online in various places (maybe rubbish!), that the warping engine/beat/loop engine was different and not as tight in later versions (maybe from Sony onwards)?

Is there any truth in this?

Acid Pro 3.0 sounds very tight with loops, but I can't see why this wouldn't have stayed the same with v4.0?

I don't need Acid for midi at all (recording or playback) as its just for my own audio loops.

Would Acid 4.0 have introduced more CPU, more resources to run, as it had more features? as I'm using it on an old CPU so need all the resources I can!

Thanks

I think ACID 4 was a lot slicker and more efficient than 3, as well as being a lot more powerful. I don't recall it being a CPU hog until 6 came out. I do, however, recall running 3 on some pre-Pentium CPUs with no trouble. I can't recall if i had upgraded to Pentium before or after 4 though.
