Hi and thanks in advance for any help.

I wanted to further develop my love affair with Acid Pro 7 by buying a midi controller and learning how to use it with Acid. I bought a Axiom 25 and now I don't have a friggen idea what to do next. It came with a USB cable and a disk for a driver download. I tried to follow the online instructions for Acid and it is making reference to the midi in and out cable which I dont' think I have. I have tried to find a tutoral on setting up and using a device like this and have had little luck. I know somebody is smarter than me and can direct me on how to set this up. Again, thank you for any help.

Most MIDI controllers nowadays can use USB to communicate with your computer to do MIDI tasks. A single USB connection provides both MIDI in and MIDI out. (A lot of these controllers also have the traditional MIDI ports as well as the Axiom does, but you won't need these if you connect via USB.)

The drivers on the disc given to you might not be the latest, so get them here at M-Audio's website. (I'm assuming you have the second generation Axiom 25 but I checked against the first gen and they seem to be the same version number.)

Once those are installed, plug in your Axiom via USB. Wait for Windows to detect the Axiom properly. Launch ACID Pro. Go to Options > Preferences > MIDI.

On the bottom half of the window, choose your Axiom's hardware port for MIDI input. Click OK.

Insert a MIDI track and route it to a soft synth. (An easy way to do this is to go to the Plug-In Manager (Ctrl+Alt+1) and drag a soft synth to the track list. A MIDI track should be created and routed to that soft synth.)

Click the track in the track list to highlight it. Press a key on your MIDI keyboard. Profit. :D

If the Axiom didn't come with a manual, go here to M-Audio's site and download one in Acrobat format.
