I do only narration. NO MUSIC/

I work with ACID PRO 7 and I have a new ART TPS 11pre-amp, Now when I record he tracks are very, very hollow and bassy. I've tried adjusting gain on my board and on the pre-amp and taking the pots up and down but it still sounds like I'm talking from inside a tunnel. I'd really appreciate any HELP if you know what to do.
Thank you.

Hi Ken,

This could be a wide variety of factors, like microphone used and environment the narration is recorded in. Typically, in DIY situations, narrators like to use what's called a voiceover box.

It's usually smallish, custom-made and insulated with acoustic foam so that the only thing the mic concentrates on is what's in front of it. There are reams of articles on how to make one if you Google it.

I don't see any type of equalizer on the unit, other than the "V3" knob; I'm assuming this is some kind of preset knob for optimal recording of a specific source. There's a "neutral" setting too. In any case, you may have to throw your recordings through an equalizer (software or hardware; you could throw an EQ on a track in ACID Pro and adjust from there).

With respect to your question - I suspect you have a monitoring loop somewhere that is recording your live feed and at the same time - feeding it thru your board - giving that hollow tube effect.

Q: I also have to ask why you would use Acid for voiceovers? I have been voicing for 30 years and use Wavelab/Soundforge for all my work.

The sheer lack of editing tools in Acid would probably push me over the edge quickly :) But I would be interested to know why you chose this application for your narratives.

Happy New Year!
