Hi I am experiencing some problems when normalizing or increasing volume on some of my mp3 files. Sound Forge is chopping off the last few seconds of the sound file for some reason. Any ideas why this is happening? |

Step by step, go through exactly what procedure you're following to make these volume changes. Are you using batch converter? What kind of files are you altering (MP3, Wav, etc)? Rob |

Just normal mp3 files. I use the normalize function, ie Process>Normalize and select Maximum Peak Value, or Process>Volume and select the %db that I want to increase the volume by. With either of them they both chop the end of the mp3 off. |

That's a problem that will happen when working on MP3 files. Can you convert to wav, then normalize, then reencode and see if the behavior is the same? Keep in mind that you are reencoding each MP3 anyway as you resave thus losing some fidelity. jbolley |

Chopped off? In terms of silence at the end.. or cut/trimmed in length? Are you selecting the entire file's duration? Have you checked the Wet, Dry, Length and Fade in/out parameters under 'More' in the process' window? Sorry, but I don't recall hearing of this abnormality happening before in SF. A possible work-around may be to add a few seconds of silence to the end prior to processing. As a rule, it's best record/edit/save in a non-compressed format and encode to MP3 as the final step. |

It's done the same thing when I saved as a wav and chopped off the end of the wav too. I've inserted 10 seconds silence at the end and that seems to have worked ok. |

When it chops the audio off, is there a fade, or does it just abruptly chop it off? The only thing I can think of is to check the crossfade properties as was suggested here already. Otherwise, I've never run into this behavior before with Sound Forge. Rob. |

It abruptly chops the end off. It's done it on a wav as well as an mp3, and also with 30 seconds silence inserted at the end. Will look at the crossfade properties |
