I have read Mr. Rodd Harris's problem and all the responses. I have VF2.5 virsion. I am having pretty much the same problem except I keep getting error problm message and forces me to close by Alt+Del. I have failed to print to DV Tape. I have no problem printing VCD. It prints fine and plays fine.

Please Help. Thanks.

Make sure that you have the 2.0a update. I've seen print to tape problems with the original release, and the update fixes these problems:

I'm running VideoFactory 2a, this is with the updated patch, and I am also having problems, on and off, printing rendered DV/avi to my DV device.
Sometimes there is no problem printing, and then with a new file I only get play back but no printing.
I found that if I switched the computer off and returned some time later - I was then able to print the file. Any suggestions??

I downloaded the newer 2.0a, edited some clips, then tried to output to tape, but nothing happened. Video Capture (or my PC) still isn't recoginizing the camcorder being plugged in via FireWire. Since I've downloaded the updates, I don't have the ability to print-to-tape through DVMotion or Adobe Premiere, if I wish to. (I was told DVMotion would be knocked out).

Plus, I'm still seeing image breakup and pixelation that's not supposed to be in the video.

Two questions:

1) Have you tried running the "SF.sony" utility (from Sonic foundry downloads)? If you have SONY DV Gate, you might try running this.

2) Can you print a captured DV clip (never rendered) back to tape?

Yes, I've tried this DVGate utility, but nothing's happening on my PC.

The computer is not reconizing the fact that the I.Link is plugged into it. At this stage, my entire video editing system is useless.

Are you running DirectX 8.0A with the DV supplement?

Yes, I downloaded the DirectX drivers, as well as any updates from Sonic Foundry. However, it still doesn't address the unwanted image break-up or pixelation issues.

Thanks.

Without opeing up Video Factory when you turn your camera on and connect it to the firewire port and then you look in the Device Manager do you see an entry for Imaging devices? Do you seen and entry for Microsoft DV Camera and VCR? If not then your system is not seeing the camera at all. Is the pixelation that you are seeing in the rendered footage prior to printing it to tape? If it is not and it is only showing up on the files that you are trying to print to tape do you have DMA enabled on your hard drive? Do you have a SCSI card on your system? Are the firewire card and SCSI card sharing the same bus. If the problem is occuring in the rendered footage do a search on your computer for a file named aviplug.dll. Once you find it right click on it and rename it to aviplug.dll.bak. Then reinstall Video Factory 2.0a over the top of itself and try to rerender the clip.

Dave P, thanks for replying. I tried the Device Manager and the camera shows up under Microsoft DV Camera with an exclamation point in the middle of the icon. I double clicked it and it asked me to update the driver. I did and Microsoft DV was replaced with the Sony DV driver.

The footage that was initially transferred into the PC was flawless.

I have a 27.2 GB Seagate Barracuda ATA drive.

I can now transfer the original footage back to tape via DVMotion. However, the files I edited in any of the Vegas/VF software will not come up. An "unsupported file" message comes up.

To get AVI DV files to play in Pinnacle Studio DV for print-to-tape, I had to uncheck the "strictly conform to AVI2 specification" in the options/pref area. That might do it for you.

I've tried nearly every conceivable option to fix these problems, from suggestions from Sonic Foundry to suggestions from posters on this forum, but I've encountered more errors in regard to VF2 and Vegas Video.

I deleted the latest VF2 update in order to download the file again. Well, just to see if anything was going wrong with other files, I went into Vegas Video. The removal of VF2 took out a number of the filters in Vegas Video. I'm not sure if these programs were linked to one another, but this has become frustrating.

Sonic Foundry's techs have been helpful, but I'm not too happy to find more errors. I'm a huge fan of Vegas Audio (which was somehow knocked out of my PC--I didn't request for this to happen!), which has worked flawlessly. And I liked the ease and professional layout of VF & Vegas Video, but it does me no good if they don't work correctly.

Thousands (well obviously many) people have successfully printed DV back to tape from VideoFactory and Vegas, but if you insist on using the Sony codec, Sony DVGate, other codecs or Pinnacle capture (or something other than what SF advises) you could easily run into trouble.

#1: Run the SF.sony utility from sonicfoundry downloads. This gets rid of the Sony codec and driver and reverts the system back to the DirectX codec, which VF prefers.

#2 If you don't see "Microsoft Camera and VCR" as the driver when you connect your camera to SF Video Capture, ditch the driver that does come up. Info right inside of Vidcap>Help> on how to get the right driver happening.

#3 Next, render the timeline using the stock, unmodified NTSC DV template. Don't mess with the settings at all, make sure OpenDML avi is checked.

#4 Print to tape with SF Video Capture. It'll work.

Put a BMW carb on your Jaguar engine and fill the tank with paint thinner and that won't work either.

Thanks for the advice, Pelvis, but I've tried all those remedies already.

Hello:

If you would like the Video Capture and Print to tape utility to function properly you would need to be using the Microsoft Driver for the firewire card. If you have your SCSI card sharing the same PCI bus as the firewire card it can cause the pixelation that you are experiencing as well as several other problems. If this is the case simply change slots for the firewire card or the SCSI card until they are on different buses. Beyond that make sure that there are not any IRQ conflicts with the firewire card. Ideally you would want it to be on its own IRQ. This is no easy task if you are running Win 2000 since it tends to force everything under the sun to IRQ 9. If you are running Win 2k and would like to give this a try i can point you to some information that could be very helpful for you concerning the IRQ situation.
