Borders Changing size

Jazzman54 wrote on 12/16/2011, 5:49 AM
This is an old problem. I have raised it with Sony support, but they refuse to accept it as a problem and say they cannot recreate it.
If I pan a still across the screen with a border FX (solid, beveled or blurred), part way across the scan (about 10% across), the border will change size, only to revert back to the original size at around 90% across. This link illustrates the issue:

If I generate a solid colour media square, resize it and add a border, this size change does not happen it also does not happen with video effects. I have experimented with all sorts of still image sizes and file types with no joy. Vegas 8 does not have this problem. Vegas 9, 10 and 11 all have this new 'feature' with stills.
Can anyone cast a light on this? Does anyone have a workround to avoid me having to do all my photo collages with Vegas 8? I recall posting this question many moons ago, but my luck with the forum search facility is somewhat thin.
Thanks for any help.. Ian

Confirmed: just reproduced it here, exactly the same result.

Strange effect, notice if you preview with Preview Auto, you dont see the effect, its fine, but then try Preview HALF for higher, then you see it.
Renders show the problem too.

very odd.

jazzman54 - just tried this in V7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and it works exactly as intended for me. I applied a white border, used track motion to move it across the screen L to R in 10 seconds and no change at all in size of border. So, I can confirm that Sony may not be able to reproduce it because I for one cannot either. Sorry.

I cannot reproduce here either. I placed a Sony Border | Bevel on an image, used Track Motion to move it across the screen and it looks fine. I previewed in Good (Full) mode which is what I use to render. No issues at all so Sony may not be able to reproduce it.

So some users see it ( like me) and some dont.

The reason some are seeing it and some aren't, I believe, is because some have done the panning using Track Motion, while others have done the panning using Event Pan/Crop. If you perform the pan with Event Pan/Crop, then you'll need to apply the Event FX prior to Event Pan/Crop, so that the border will be visible (drag the Pan/Crop placeholder to the right of the Border FX in the Event FX chain). The issue is that Vegas is processing still images differently than video or media generators. Since the effect is being applied PRIOR to the crop, the size of the border is being adjusted over time as the image enters the frame. If you look closely to Jazzman's example, you'll notice the bevel on the left side of the picture as it enters the frame, and again on the right side as it exits. This appears to be a bug, and I will submit it to the developers.

The workaround I would suggest would be to use Track Motion to create the pan.

Thanks,
SCS

That sounds on the right lines.
Stepping through the time line, you do see a false left border in entering and then a false right border when leaving the frame. This in turn is messing with the overall border size.
Yup, its a bug. Will now check Track Motion.

Confirmed: use Track Motion for pan, issue goes away.

Thank you everyone for your efforts and inputs. I am glad that someone at Sony has acknowledged an issue. I must admit to not trying track motion, I usually want each event within a track to have their own movement.
Thanks again all.
