Subject:Record while playing a track

I recently installed Sony Sound Forge 9 on my new VAIO laptop. I want to be able to record one track (say, piano) then play it back while someone sings along. I want to be able to record the sing-along as a separate parallel track that can be edited by itself and then mixed with the piano track. I just can't figure out how to record multiple tracks of the same music piece. Do I need ACID to do this?

ACID or Vegas would be a much better choice, yes.

However, if you're willing to perform a sound-on-sound type of operation, you can play the previously recorded track in Media Player and record that playback and the new material mixed together in a new Sound Forge session. You won't end up with them on individual tracks, but at least you'll get the mix.

I have never tried it yet, since I have Vegas, but if you get one of the external USB (or Firewire) audio interfaces, you should be able to record both of them via seperate channels. Say Piano on Left and Vocals on Right.

Yes, but Sound Forge doesn't have the capability to play back some channels while recording other ones simultaneously.

SF is the wrong type of application for this work. An work-around is mentioned elsewhere in the thread.
