Hello All,

I'm particularly new to PC's and very green to SoundForge. Currently doing a Multimedia course here in Tokyo and have been introduced to this great software. Sorry, enough chit chat, eh. Here's my problem/query..I want to edit the sound from a video file, that I believe is in realplayer format . The file is on the server of a company I'm involved with, unfortunately though, I don't have access to the original video camera file, is that the right terminoligy..? Can I get the sound from that file on the server..? How would I do it..? Any help of course greatly appreciated in advance. Cheers all.

Unfortunately, there is no software that I am aware of that will allow you to edit RealMedia formats. The format was designed to allow companies to place copyrighted material on the net without worry of piracy. As a result, they do not license the libraries/information required to edit the format to third-parties.

Can open you open that video/audio file on the same computer that you have S.F. installed. Maybe it would play in Windows Media player etc.

Can you select a recording option something like 'What U hear' on your sound card?

If you can do both of the above then all you need to do is start record in S.F. and play the video. Presto, you now have that audio recorded in S.F.

Good Luck

I don't know if this will help, but if you upgrade to the Real Player Pro...(or whatever the non-free version is) it has a Record Audio option, so you are able to record the audio...no video is allowed. So I guess if you just need the audio, you can record it this way and then open it in Sound Forge.

Alright! you are almost there. For openers forget about opening you file in S.F. It's Not going to happen.

The goal of this project is to 'Record' audio 'From' your video 'To' S.F. Though your computer.

Here's your options:

1. check your real player options as suggested.

2. Open your Sound Card Mixer recording options. Look for a option that will allow you to play audio in your computer and
record in your computer at the same time. I use a Sound Blaster Live Value card. I select 'What U Hear' for this kind of stuff. I set my recording volume there as well.
You may have expermint to find the correct setting.

3. If Your sound card does not have a recording option that will allow you play/record internally then you can loop your line out cable to your line in port.

If you do Not understand this or can't make any thing work. email me at dcmelvin@icehouse.net. I will walk you though this one on one as well send you 'How to photos'
