Hello,

The firewire is plug in the PCI 1? (Below the Agp slot)

The Agp and PC1 usually shares the same IRQ

If you think you are having performance problems, you can change the 1394 card to other PCI slot.
Personally, I have never had a problem doing this, not even with Windows 2000, but a friend of mine got his Windows installation ruined. He had to reinstall Windows.

On W2K, just go into the device manager and uninstall the device and swap it to another slot and let W2K redetected. It should be pretty painless. As other posters have mentioned, slot1/AGP usually share an IRQ.

Moving cards from PCI slot to PCI slot can cause problems. Try letting W98 start up, but then hit reset button before it gets very far. It should then ask you whether you want to start up in Safe Mode, say yes.

Once W98 finishes starting up in Safe Mode, go into System, then look at your devices. When I moved some cards around, I ended up with multiple entries for the same device. Remove ALL entries for such devices, so W98 can re-Find them.

Hope this helps . .

Wow, many ways to do this. Here's my advice too.
First you might want to check your motherboard manual and verify which PCI slots are "Shared" with another slot, and move them if it's needed like previously mentioned. The best way to assign IRQ's is to go into your Bios setup and you can reserve IRQ's per PCI slot. Windows will obey any IRQ reservations that you make in the bios and will work around with what's left over for your other devices.

I did look at the bios, but since it lets me reserve a specific IRQ for a slot, I'm not sure how it would help. Assuming the 1394 card is in slot 1 (I haven't checked yet), and windows is already assigning IRQ 9 to it and the video card, what do I tell Windows? Limit slot 1 to IRQ 7 (or another number)? Won't windows then just assign IRQ 7 to both the video card and 1394 card, just like it did with IRQ 9?

I'm afraid I'm going to have to move the 1394 card and risk screwing up my setup.
