avi playback

i import an avi clip that i capture from my dv camcorder, do a bit editing and render as avi file, when i play back, the video is kind of jerky, i mean not smooth and the audio doesn't sound right, i try to import the same avi again and render as avi file without doing any editing of fx but still the same on the playback, if i render as wmv format that plays fine, any idea?

Are you rendering your AVI file using the NTSC DV template? Or Uncompressed?

Uncompressed DV resolution video can require five times the data transfer rate of standard DV, and won't play back smoothly on most systems.

After you have rendered your video have you tried to import it into Vegas and play it back while watching the video preview window? Do you still have the problem withing Vegas on playback?

yes u r right, i use uncompressed when i render.it is set as default.
can u tell me what should be set at the render propertities when i save this file? i try to play around with the setting but none of them work for me.

hi DaveP
i make a mistake, i import the avi i render and playback in vegas, it runs smooth. i have problem on the mediaplayer only.
does it mean the rendered avi is fine, just the playback engine problem?

You are correct. If the file plays back smoothly in Vegas, than Media Player is just doing a poor job of playing it. I don't think that your question above got answered. If you are working with DV, then you should render your projects in the AVI format using the NTSC DV template. These rendered files will normally be around on fifth the size of your uncompressed AVI files (and therefore, one fifth the datarate). If you are not working with DV, then there are less rules as to how you should render, my first suggestion would be to the same resolution/format/quality as your source file.
