I want to open a number of tracks and crossfade them and trim them. However all I can do is open music files in seperate windows and work on each file separately. I can see no way of crossfading (ie mixing) by seeing all of my opened files on one view. Audacity does it so can sound forge? |

You can copy and paste from one window to another. If you paste/mix, the new song you add to the window can overlap and crossfade what is already in that window. With the newer versions of Sound Forge each pasted portion can continue to "float" and be repositionable, like photoshop layers, until you flatten them by saving a finished file. It's a lot slicker to do this in Vegas or ACID instead, which are designed to handle multitudes of media files as individual events on one timeline. |

SF-AS does not support 'Event based editing', so cross-fading is not as easily accomplished. Cross-fading can also be quickly done with CD Architect if the final product is a CD. (a shiny round antiquated disc that replaced the even more antiquated cassette tape) |

Wanna hear a funny? I've gotten soooooo beyond CDs these days that i've actually had occasion to access cassette tapes (for recovering and digitizing old material) more than CDs recently. |

Re CDArchitect: "Cross-fading can also be quickly done with CD Architect if the final product is a CD." True; and result can also be rendered to a .WAV file instead of CD. Just use menu File | Save As and specify .WAV Message last edited on11/24/2011 2:43:28 PM byChristoC. |

You could copy/paste to one file then shuffle things about, but very tedious with a lot of trial and error. Use CD Architect, which is an included download with SF. You can freely slide things around time-wise, crossfading etc, and tweak the relative levels until just right. As said elsewhere , you can then render the result to a WAV, or write to a CD. geoff Message last edited on11/24/2011 3:19:38 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

In a lot of ways, CD Architect is basically a two-track Vegas Audio. |

Yes, and very useful if you select "Use Second Audio Layer" = you can crossfade/edit between 2 stereo sounds on different tracks; you can easily have a few tracks playing at same time.... |
