Subject:Sound Forge 10 – Saffire Pro 40 Conflict

I use Sony Sound Forge 10 running through a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 audio interface. I’m running Windows 7 64-bit with an AMD Phenom II processor.

Although I have always been able to run my apps flawlessly, I suddenly have begun to encounter severe latency (5-6 seconds on playback) with Sound Forge. This does not affect any other apps (such as Live 8, Sonar X1, or Reason 6) nor does it occur when selecting other sound options such as Windows Mapper. As Sound Forge was the only app affected, I focused my attention on troubleshooting the interface.

After a great deal of tinkering and frustration late last night, I was able to resolve the issue. The problem followed a recent upgrade to Focusrite MixControl 2.4 and was caused by the firewire driver (v3.5.6) that installed with this version of the program. After disconnecting the unit, I uninstalled the current version and reinstalled MixControl 2.2 (firewire v3.5.3) – all is again right with the world - and my latency issues are no more.

I should note that I cannot state for certain whether this problem relates to all Saffire versions or whether it occurs with previous versions of Sound Forge.

As I am uncertain whether the fix is with Sony or Focusrite, I have contacted both camps.

Thanks,

John

Thanks for this post, John2260, it was very helpful to me.

I am running Sound Forge 9 on Windows 7 64-bit with an Intel i5 processor, using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 14.

I was having the same latency issues you described. I backed down a release on the MixControl software just as you did, and also found relief.

Thank you -
Eric
