Sony vegas 11 extremely unstable

Zanoonga wrote on 11/10/2011, 8:31 AM
Hi!
I'm currently working with vegas 11 and it crashes everytime I tinker with the text tool.
It also crashes when I enter the pan/crop tool.
The same project in Vegas 10 works like a charm!

Extremely frustrating. Does anyone else have these problems?

I'm using a DELL precision T3500
A new Asus Graphics card (GeForce GTX 560 Ti)
I have installed Boris Continuum.
I'm also working with RED footage and Cineform Footage. in the same project.

What I would suggest is that you turn off GPU acceleration and leave it off until the next update.
Zanoonga wrote on 11/10/2011, 8:41 AM
Turned it off...
Still crashes... :/

Certainly not.
On my PC everything works like a charm - including the GPU accelerated render.
Rock stable.
Just like good old 8c and 10e.

I'm having a lot of trouble crashing with cineform media. New project, one cineform clip on the time line, change it to 32 bit and crashes every time.

One guy on Creative Cow was getting so frustrated with all the crashes that he was considering switching to another NLE.
He was working with Cineform AVIs from source AVCHD footage.
In desperation, he tried the raw AVCHD files and his crashing stopped immediately.
He was more than willing to put up with a bit of timeline lag during FX and transitions.

Probably a very good idea: I have been working with AVCHD 1920x1080 50 i and p directly from the cameras for over a year now - and it works very well here.
I preview at full speed at Preview Half - which is quite useable at some 29 x 16,5 centimetres on my monitor.

I've been using cineform as an intermediate such as when I pre-stabilize, time remap, and/or noise reduce clips. The files are big enough without going to DNxHD or a lossless codec like lagarith.

I have to go back to Vegas 9 to use Cineform.
Zanoonga wrote on 11/11/2011, 4:07 AM
I updated my system in "My account".
I updated Cineform, but now it crashed when working with a Canon 7D-file (AVCHD)
It crashes all the time.

I don't want to change NLE, but my bosses are anxious and have been pressing me to switch to Premiere, which i REALLY don't want to do...
I hade many issues with 10 also, mainly sound issues (Crashes when using 48Hz files in 44.1 projects, choppy sound when mixing 48Hz and 44.1Hz sound files)

I have similar problems with footage from our 5Dmk2's Its just very unstable and the final show stoper for me was pixcelation issues when renering to MP4 for apple tv etc. (720 x 1280 - 25p) (same spec perfect in V10)
Various other starnge things happening, just seems very unstable, 10 crashes producing a 20 minute video/photo slideshow is just not useable.
Gone back to version 10 for now, and all is fine. Hopefully all will be sorted soon.

I wish that I could say that my V11 was as stable as ritsmer's. It just isn't. Crashes abound, usually when using fx's (color corrector, levels, sharpness, and color curves - all Sony plug-ins). I've tried it with GPU on and off and with preview ram at different settings, but still get crashes.

I'm not bashing V11. I'm just adding my voice so that Sony knows there is something seriously wrong in V11. I'm confident that, like V10, they'll eventually get it right in V11, too. I appreciate that they've already released an update.

I like V11 so much that I'm tolerating the crashes for the short projects I'm doing. Of course, I do this as a serious hobby, not for a living. If I did this for a living, I probably would be pulling my hair out with V11.

JasonATL,

I, for one, second your emotions.

I do it for a living. I am now bald...

Really liked your advertisements--very well done--nicely shot! Especially liked the two truck ads.

I too find v11 unusable. I upgraded the graphics card to GTX560i to "benefit" from GPU acceleration, but it just crashes every time I render.

Also with GPU enabled the colours flash briefly on playback.

All in all, a complete waste of money so far, so all serious work is being done on v10e.

Have been a long-time loyal user of the application (since ver. 5) - not panicking yet. But I wanted to add my report of every time I use the program I get "vegas has stopped working" and application evaporation. This coincides with use of pan crop or text tool.

Geoff, I'm with you. Have been a committed Vegas user since v 4. Version 11 is highly unstable on my Sony Vaio laptop running w7 & 6 gb ram . Same experiences as yourself, crashing each time I attempt a really basic project - even a project of some 5 mins duration, with min transitions or FX. Like others , ver 9e is a champion & I've reluctantly moved back until issues with v11& the NBT are sorted & stable.This version doesn't instil much confidence and I'm left wondering just how much beta testing is undertaken as clearly many loyal users like myself are experiencing very real and challenging issues. Please Sony , get your next update out sooner rather than later. Duncan

Adding to the list. For me it not only keeps crashing but does not render in .mp4 format at all. It gives an un-known error. I've done multiple factory settings, driver updates, fresh installs. Nothing seem to work. Have reached out to both Sony Tech team and New Blue Fx team (in case the issue is Titler Pro).

@Zanoonga,
under the My Account drop-down menu above, slip down to the System Information (second from the bottom) and put your data there ... I still can't see your System Specs on your account page.
Additionally, your website link is broken or mistyped. . .
* * *
@ et al ... The Sony guys are very good ... they'll have a solution figured out and distributed before too long. If you have been using another Sony tool successfully before v11, return there for the time being to ease your anxiety and stress...
This sort of upgrade problem is not normal, but neither is it extremely rare; I have confidence in the Sony guys to fix it quickly.
* * *
I know it does not ease any frustration and stress to receive such a powerful editing tool that arrives broken right out of the box ... but please be assured, they'll fix it... soon.
* * *
Finally, please accept my encouragement as a sincere gesture to calm your fears and apprehensions about Sony Vegas Pro and not as any sort of patronizing or paternalistic appeal. I certainly don't mean to demean or marginalize your skills as editors, videographers, or producers; I'm just trying to bring a little calm to what might be a very chaotic situation for many. I've been around since v4, and Sony has yet to disappointment me with their fixes. . . I believe there are a few others who think the same way, but I certainly am not putting words in their mouths; if they agree, we'll hear from them. . . (grin)

Until that time. . . Earl J.

TLF wrote: Who tests the updates...? Surely not the same bunch of obsequious fawns who beta-tested VP11, surely.

Ah, nice: English is not my native language - and I always find it quite interesting to see expressions that I do not know - so could you (TLF) please tell me what is the meaning of "obsequious fawns" - and why it is suitable in connection with the ladies and gentlemen using their (free) time for beta-testing Vegas??

@Earl_J
I entered my system yesterday. I don't know why it isn't shown.
Earl_J wrote on 11/12/2011, 11:54 AM
It appears that it takes time to populate. . . I just went to check it again; and there it is!
Apologies. . . I certainly didn't mean to add yet another bit of stress to what is probably a stressful enough situation. . . Mark this issue closed... (grin)

Until that time . . . Earl J.

This time, I did a fresh, factory install, re-freshed all drivers and did not install New Blue Titler. The software starts crashing as soon as I use any of the Media Fx and stops rendering as .mp4.

Extremely frustrated. I had been using Vegas HD 10 and Vegas HD 11 for a couple years and was so impressed with the software that decided to invest the money and upgrade to Vegas Pro 11. I wish, I had not upgraded at all.
