Subject:Computer speakers

I'm looking for input on good speakers to get for my computer. Right now I'm using a cheap pair that came with a couple of generations ago computer. I don't need home stereo quality -- I have a great home system in the same room as my computer. I want some nice ones that I can really hear the sound spectrum on as I edit music in Sound Forge.

Opinions or input???

I use Bose headphones (non-noise cancelling) or Klipsch THX 2.1 (not current) and both are awesome. I hear everything from both. I can't complain a bit.

Thanks for the input. You pretty much can't go wrong with Klipsch and Bose.

I'm also running a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium HD which doesn't hurt. :) The life of a hobbyist...

If you are wanting stereo, not 5.1, anything like these will do quite nicely. I own a slightly less expensive pair.

Dirt simple and cheap. Run a cable from the line out of the computer into the Aux in on the stereo system. Done.

It's what i've done for decades. For $5 worth of cable you'll get way better sound quality than even a $100 pair of speakers would provide.

In my home editing suite environment I too use an older stereo amp with a good set of compact speakers and a subwoofer on my system, as I also do a lot of audio work.

However, I also like to have a set of small "average" speakers for mixing as well, as sometimes what sounds great on a large system sounds terrible on a small system, and the other way around.

A while back, I found these speakers with a variety of interface options, and was so pleased with them.I have bought a number of them for various editing stations at my real job. With the USB, 1/4", RCA, and 1/8" inputs, they are very flexible, and really do sound quite good for a small desktop speaker.

I also us a pair of Sony earphones for those late night editing sessions. Don't want to keep the dog, cats, daughter and wife (not necessarily in that order) awake all night, but then I recheck the mixes on the Alesis speakers during the day for proper sonic balance. Headphones can fool you.

LOL. The cats i belong to love hearing sound from my editing room in the middle of the night. That means that they (being nocturnal beasts by nature) have a warm lap they can cuddle on for a while.

Thanks for the tip, plasmavideo. I'll keep it in mind. For now, I've ordered a cord to go from computer to stereo...I'll start with that and my Logitech headset I have.

Yeah, Kelly. I have one cat that thinks she OWNS my editing chair. Perhaps the accumulated warmth from me occupying that chair for decades draws her to it. She also thinks it's her duty to pounce on the switch on the power strip to try to shut off the computer when I'm not paying enough attention to her.

The other cat hates me because I don't lay on the couch all night with her cuddled in my armpit, feeding her kibbles.

The dog brings her toy frisbee in, places it on my feet, and mutters under her breath until I pick it up and heave it 20 feet to the staircase, so she can chase it down the steps and bring it back, only to repeat the process endlessly. Sometimes I have to lock her out of the room just to get some editing done.

My daughter hears the slightest sounds when I'm mixing some music tracks together for a DJ gig, and comes in and wants me to play Justin Bieber and Taio Cruz until my ears bleed.

My wife merely shakes her head and just doesn't understand me . . . . . . .
