VEGAS PRO 11 DOES NOT LOAD WITHOUT QT 7

cybercom wrote on 10/28/2011, 4:20 PM
I've been working with version 10.0e for awhile with no problems at all. Got the disk version of 11, installed it, completed the registration and it crashed at the flash screeen! I cannot get in to the program at all.

I have to admit that that is a first for any program I've ever bought.

Just uninstalled it and put the disk back in the box.

When is build 372 coming out???

Rest assured that this is not the universal expereince of V11 users , in fact yours is the first report(?) of such behaviour so far.

Maybe instead of putting it back in the box, an uninstall, reboot, and subsequent re-install might be in order.

And if that doesn't help, maybe some specifics to help us figure out what is wonky with your system that might be causing this.

I wonder if you can download a trial version and use the serial number from your disk to activate?

Uninstalled, reinstalled.
At load, splash screen appears immediately followed by Problem Report screen.

If I leave the PR screen alone, after a few minutes, Vegas 11 loads.

Imported some footage and tried to make a Stereoscopic subclip. That selection is greyed out no matter how I select/right click events.

As soon as I click on Send, Don't Send or close the PR window, Vegas closes with no dialogs.

I had the same problem, but with a downloaded upgrade. The program would hang at the splash screen, with the error report appearing, and after 1 minute the program would start up.

I have an ATI Radeon HD5770 card. I updated my Catalyst driver, and it made no difference. I did not have Quicktime installed, so just on the offchance installed the latest version of Quicktime (Version 7,7.1). After that the program starts normally. I don't know if this is a coincidence, but it worked for me.

Now I have discovered another problem, and that is the failure to render using the GPU, with any of the preset render templates. In fact, only one render template works, and that is the MainConcept AVC/AAC AVCHD 1929x1080 Export to DVD Architect 25p using CPU render. So, I am no better off by upgrading.

king.peter,
If some of your "Custom Presets" are not working, you may find this thread worth reading:

Updated nVidia driver. Reinstalled Vegase. Same Problem. Does not load.

That problem report is exactly the same as I was getting when Vegas 11 halted at the splash screen. It was always at "creating I/O manager" and the fault module was always FileIOSurrogate.exe, just as you are getting. I tried all sorts of silly tricks to resolve this. I deleted "C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 11.0\x86\FileIOSurrogate.exe" from the Sony folder, and I was amazed that the program then opened after the expected loading time (around 5 seconds on my system). I thought I had cracked it, but the program was unusable because I could not open any projects created in Vegas 10. Tried copying the FileIOSurrogate.exe file from V10 to replace the one in V11. Did not work.

I posted a question, and Sony support suggested doing a clean uninstall and reinstall, following this link:

http://www.custcenter.com/cgi-bin/sonypictures.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4289&p_created=1220389425

This did not initially help however. But after updating my Catalyst driver and downloading the latest verson of Quicktime, it now loads as quickly as Vegas 10. I cannot say which of these remedied actually did the trick.

Still cannot render using my Radeon HD5770 GPU however, not even default Vegas 11 templates. MainConcept AVC/ACC: Export to DVD Architect 25 Mbs is the only template that renders both video and audio streams to a single file. Render time v. real time is 2.7:1, so not too bad, and I am using that at present, until the problem with GPU rendering is sorted out.

@king.peter:

Holding my breath, I set a restore point and updated QT.

Vegas 11 now loads the way it should.

Requirements on the box only say that QT is needed "for reading and writing Quicktime files." It should say that it is needed for Vegas to open!

Thanks again for your input. Hope that others can benefit from your R&D & solution.

Best,

should be better error reporting that would have prevented this users frustration Sony... please take note...
cybercom wrote on 10/30/2011, 8:39 PM
@Sony:

Or at least some notification that QT7+ is SPECIFICALLY REQUIRED, not just an option if you want to work with quicktime files - (which I never do).

@couryhouse:

Thanks for the support!!

Same problem for me. I decided to go with trial version to see if they really had fixed the silent CD's being burnt from the timeline, and the mpeg1 renderings that would only play on WMP's in computers with W7 installed. Considering I had to go back to VP9 half the time because VP1 was not working properly, I could see no reason to purchase VP11 if it had the same problems. Unfortunately, I'll never find out. Neither the 32-bit nor the 64-bit get past "Initializing GPU-accelerated video processing. It hangs there and pops up the PR screen. I tried uninstalling and removing from the registry. Tried updating QT. Contacted support, and after two weeks of back and forth, they advised a clean reinstall because they didn't think the Sony Setup files were right. I see someone else already tried that and it didn't work, so I'm probably not going to wipe out my entire fleet of Sony products just to see if maybe that will make VP11 work.

This is very disappointing. In case it helps anyone else, the PR send data is:

@JimMSG:

This appears to be a different problem, but, perhaps, it has a similar solution.

Take a good look at the "Requirements" of VP11. Maybe there is something in there that will provide a clue?

Good luck,

Not sure how different, but it did turn out to be the video drivers. I had made sure my QT was up-to-date, and that didn't help. The last thing I wanted to do was a clean install. Fortunately doing an update on the video drivers turned out to be the ticket.

I installed Pro 11 yesterday and had the same experience - load wouldn't get past the splash screen. I removed QuickTime completely from my PC and Pro 11 now loads.
